Reanimation Fungus

Fungus organism originating in the huge mushroom forests of Tebburus. When it finds a corpse in the forests, it will attempt to infect it, growing within the corpse. After a certain point, it can modify the hosts body, repairing its tissues and can take control of the body, even though it is dead.
It can also, slowly, infect live organisms. Staying in the mushroom forests for too long will do this. They get plenty of warning though - there are many symptoms.
It can even infect mechanical entites. Abandoned military vehicles have been known to be reanimated and attack Suon society.

Treatment

Reanimated hosts - completely and utterly destroy the body or use ionizing radiation
Live Infection - precision use of ionizing radiation, certain chemicals or just time. The latter option works for all stages until the host is completely taken over.
Machine infection - ionizing radiation. if it is shielded, deplete the shield barrier and then fire ionizing radiation. Using weapons that penetrate the armour and cause interior explosions inside will also work.

Prevention

Shield generators will block it. An airtight suit with oxygen tanks are a more reliable solution, but much clunkier. It will not machine infect airtight vehicles.

History

During the medieval period of the Unification War one battle happened on the continent of Ooblar. The battlezone was a large mushroom forest. It was fought almost entirely by infantry because of the very confined spaces. After the battle, corpses were left behind, but the mushrooms caused them to zombify, their bodies taken over by the pathogens. These were observed attacking both sides to spread the pathogen, but of course, the suons science at the time could not account for this phenomenon. They interpreted the zombies as having come back form hell specifically to kill everyone. As it never happened elsewhere, it was figured out that the mushrooms are a cause. As such, this place of the world was called the ‘Devils Mushroom Forest’.

Cultural Reception

Reanimated creatures - dismember it and then burn it. If you cant do that, run! Unless you have the ionizing radiation thing.
Live infection - keep away form him (doesnt really help). If possible, help him with the infection.
Machine infection - destroy that thing now! Or run. But preferably destroy it.
