Xalarin Atmospheric Shield

A technology used by the Xalarin Council.
The Xalarin race evolved on a world with extremely high surface temperatures (Xalarnel). These shields can project a field that only prevents atmosphere from entering or exiting. This allows the person to live on a planet that would otherwise be uninhabitable to them, yet have a safe temperature to most species. It projects a very weak plasma barrier around the person. This large shield generator device is worn on the back of a xalarin. It will not protect the person from gunfire or most means of death. It can protect the user from melee combat against non xalarin races, but that is only due to the hot atmosphere it contains.
The shield is filled with an atmosphere appropriate for xalarin life before use. The shield generator itself also heats up the atmosphere as the heat does leak - though slowly. This means that the xalarin has a limited supply of energy before having to recharge their pack, so there are recharging stations built around many parts of XC territory. Wherever the xalarin walks, he can leave behind trails of burning grass, so the shield is kept at the shortest range possible while still covering the entire xalarin body. This has resulted in a number of fires, so they often also wear protective boots and only allow the shield to extend downwards to about knee level. This way, they do not burn the nearby environment and can still comfortably survive on colder worlds.
