Yajkar Squid

A species of megafauna that live in the extremely deep sea trenches of Tebburus.   These trenches can easily reach extremely large depths. Due to the large size of Tebburus, trenches can be much larger. Additionally, a larger gravitational force can mean that the pressure at the bottom of these trenches can reach almost a full order of magnitude larger than that of the Mariama trench, instantly killing almost every lifeform. The yajkar squid, however, evolved to survive at these depths where there is so little light that no species has any eyes and the entire ecosystem survives purely off geothermal energy. There are a number of exceptions as all Tebburus lifeforms have bioluminescent properties, and many have evolved to make use of it, thus keeping their eyes. To sustain megafauna life such as this requires a significant ecosystem, which can be seen in some of the larger trenches of Tebburus. Most species at these depths rely on echolocation, so the yajkar are attracted to sources of sound to feed off any lifeforms that might have created sound.   Perhaps thankfully, Suons very rarely travel to these depths for any reason so they are rarely threatened by the squids. There have been incidents of suons being killed and eaten by these though, in which case the pressure always kills them much faster than the squid itself. Many of these were researchers dispatched to document geological and biological systems at these extreme depths.   The squids reproduce quite slowly and use a lot of energy to reproduce. It is thought that this is because of the relatively limited size of the trenches compared to open ocean and they evolved this to limit themselves. The yajkar population has remained almost perfectly consistent since this even through the unification war and in modern times. Notably, about 20 000 seem to exist at almost all times.
