ster-imperianus (stir imper-e-an-us)

Purpose / Function

It is a fortress at the one opening in the a'teran mountain range to protect the rest of the cities in the desert. It was originally the a regular settlement to act as a base for the early founders of the nation to advance into the ice deserts to build more settlements. After more settlements were made, it was turned into a great fortress to protect the people.

Alterations

Basic fences around the settlement got replaced with heavy stone walls in order to have better protection. New towers made around the walls for being able to watch around the fortress. Tents and other more temporary structures replaced with stone buildings.

Architecture

Stone is the main building material for the fortress. the outside of building is often bare and undecorated stone. The insides of buildings are more heavily decorated with decorations and religious symbols. As the area the fortress is in snows often, the roofs of all buildings are slanted to prevent build of snow on roofs that could cause structural issues.

Defenses

The fortress is defended with heavy stone walls with arrow towers and ballista in it. The fortress has series of trench lines outside of it as a first line of defense. In front of the trenches is a series of traps to cause damage to invaders. It has gates that are enchanted with ice shield runes on it for extra protection. Under the fortress is a series of tunnels that connect to the trenches to allow quick redeployment of troops. The fortress is garrisoned by the ster-bastan, the shields of the bastion, and the 8th, 5th, 7th, and 8th shields. The main building in the center has massive bells at the top whos sound echoes through out the city to alert of any incoming attacks. The fortress has several outposts further away from it to stall and damage invading armies, and alert the bastion of upcoming threats.
