Gartian Marine Squad
When those blue demons jumped down from the rigging I knew it was over. Those mariners can dance their way through a crew more gracefully than a fish swims in water, and once they're done, nothing was left alive. All I can say is i'm glad they're paid to protect us or I'd never get on a ship again
Composition
Weaponry
The mariners of a marine squad have a standardised equipment list for active duty. This is as follows:
Rapier - The bread and butter for any Gartian Mariner is their rapier. Through their intense training, a mariner can easily subdue foes in even the roughest of waters. It said that a Gartian Mariner without his blade is like a bird without it's wings.
Longbow - To start an attack marine squads will often try to weaken up their enemies with range fire before moving in for the kill. For this they use the longbow with its impressive range and stopping power. However many use the bow sparingly as any stray arrows can not be retrieved once claimed by the sea. Magics - Some mariners who are trained in the arcane or divine will instead use these weapons to deal with foes. Often providing support for their squad mates by either buffing them or by controlling their enemy. Rarely will a marine mage use all out attack as this risks damaging the ship around them too much which could be fatal for everyone.

Tactics
When engaging an enemy a marine squad will first soften their enemy up with ranged fire using their bows. However as soon as they are close enough to engage in melee combat with an opposing ship, they dive in. Once aboard the attacking ship the squad forms pairs, with each member of a pair guarding the back of the other. This way they can more easily focus on their individual targets. Given the nature of deck combat tight formations are not as useful so these pairs can easily manoeuvre around the deck engaging with targets quickly. The pairs will then continue to fight until the enemy surrenders, is wiped out or the Mariners are unable to keep fighting and choose to retreat.
Training
The Training for a Gartian Marine squad is constant as mariners often do not have much to do on a ship when there is not an attack happening. This means plenty of time for them the practice their duelling on one another. Because of this ability to train for hours every day in the environment they will be fighting in means that Gartian Mariners are some of the best swordsmen on the seas.
