Baphomet

The being known as Baphomet is the object of a cult of worship that is known across the globe but has its largest numbers of adherents within the Empire of Sellenia, where the Ulan Emperors have made the worship of Baphomet the primary religion of the Empire.
Many scholars believe that the being most commonly referred to as Baphomet is also the being named Paan in other non-Sellenian cultures.  Both are said to live in labyrinthine structures intended to trap visitors by causing them to become hopelessly lost.  Both have very similar physical descriptions (large, beastial creatures with goat's heads/horns, goat legs and evil dispositions).  Both seem to demand ritual sacrifices of the life blood of a victim for the promise of assistance, favor or knowledge.
One interesting theory connected to Baphomet is that the incredibly ancient and mostly destroyed granite statue found near the City of Ben Doa in Lesser Imesse is all that remains of a huge image of Baphomet.  Since all that remains of the statue are the cloven hooves and retrograde legs of a colassal structure, it is impossible to know this for certain with the extent remains, but the possibility cannot be discounted easily.  If this theory would ever be proven true, it would put the worship (or at least veneration) of Baphomet on an historical timeline back to more than 5,000 years.

Symbols most often associated with the worship of Baphomet are images of a horned goat's head, an inverted pentagram/pentacle, a headsman's axe or any combination of all of these.
