Brewhaven (Brew-haven)

Dwarven Settlement

Brewhaven is a massive underground city that was built an age ago by the Black Coast dwarves. Initially it was intended as a safe haven for their own but after several generations they began letting in those who proved themselves worthy of admittance, or innocents in need. In time, Brewhaven grew to become one of the largest and weathliest settlement of the Mountain Throne. To this day, it continues to expand further and deeper into the Blackstones.   Presently Brewhaven is a bustling place of business. The mining industry in the surrounding mountains is booming. In addition, the Heroes Guild has a well established network in Brewhaven where adventurers may take refuge, shop, and take a night off to enjoy some local culture. Heroic bands of worthy warriors who earn the respect of Brewhaven's ruler, Duke Jorus Felsteel, are offered the chance to be commissioned as a guild in their own right. They do so under the Brewhaven banner, and ultimately becoming agents of the Mountain itself.   Visiting Brewhaven can be quite the adventure. Newcomers are limited to the upper levels, nearest the Great Gate. When you first arrive, you will only have access to the Upper Greyhill District. Once you've proven yourselves worthy to the Court, however, you gain access to the rest of the city's deeper levels.

Demographics

Primarily dwarven, with a minority popuation of gnome and human.

Government

Brewhaven is governed by a consortium of guildmasters, known as the Court of Twelve. The Court answers to Jorus Felsteel, the Duke of Brewhaven.

Districts

Ground Level

The Great Gate & Gate Market

The public entrance to Brewhaven lay within a small canyon, the terminus of which is a titan stone arch carved right into the mountainside. Within the arch hangs two equally titanic metal doors. They look as though the they were crafted by giants of incredible skill. Each door is an ornate master craft in their own right. About a mile up the canyon trail is an open-air market and camp ground. The collection of ragtag vendors calls themselves the Gate Market, but they have no affiliation with Brewhaven itself. Duke Felsteel tolerates their presence as they tend to attract some of the scum and villainy that passes through before they can make it all the way into the settlement.

Upper Grayhill

Visiting Brewhaven can be quite the adventure. Newcomers are limited to the upper levels, nearest the Great Gate. Once you've proven yourselves worthy to the Court, however, you gain access to the rest of the city's deeper levels. When you first arrive, you will only have access to the Upper Greyhill district. Greyhill is built on the site of the original settlement and is the oldest part of Brewhaven.

Market Level

Mithril Market

A massive hall hewn from the bedrock of the mountain herself. Hundreds of vendors from all over the realm are represented here, all accessible by way of the maze of bridges and mezzanines. This is your first stop once you’ve made it out of Upper Greyhill. From here, the rest of Brewhaven can be accessed.

Rock Lake Farthing

Rock Lake is a self-contained underground ecosystem that was discovered during a period of expansion. The dwarves were delighted to have found such a vibrant underground oasis, while the elves feel their intrusion into this hidden seed is obscene. Few elves settle in Brewhaven, and those that do always end up in Rock Lake. This district makes up the north-eastern quarter of market level.

Old Pool Village

Old Pool Village is a slum, located on the western edge of the city. It has all the charm and amenities of village life, and the dangers and discomforts of living underground. Old Pool is where the non-dwarven commoners settle while they work to make their names in the mines or through some other venture on behalf of the Mountain. This district makes up the south-eastern quarter of market level.

Bridge District

The Bridge District is a series of conjoined mega geodes whose walls have long since been crafted into places of business, industry, and as homes. The belly of each of the geodes was flooded, creating artificial underground lakes. An elaborate lattice of bridges, hubs, and towers interconnects the entire districts. The Bridge District houses the majority of the non-local dwarven and gnome population, and makes up the north wester quarter of market level.

Lower Greyhill

Lower Greyhill is the melting pot of Brewhaven. Heroes and vendors of every race, creed, and banner that have made the Brewhaven their home come here to live and work. Though there are only a few shops, this district is primarily residential and industrial. The best foundries in the region can be found here. Lower Greyhill makes up southwestern quarter of market level.

Hearthstone Level

Hearthstone is the home of the native population of Brewhaven. The great houses that have been crafting these great halls for millenia live and work here. This is also the location of Castle Brewhaven, and the Foaming Throne. No outsiders are permitted this far into Brewhaven, not even other dwarves.
