Piglin

Smoke and heat fill the air. The fires here burn forever, fueled by their own rage. Under the fury of his native clime, he works at his forge. Molten gold boils in his crucible, ready to be poured into the shape of a sword-blade. He treasures the brilliant metal more than life itself -- as most members of his race do. Once today's swords and ingots have been forged, he will set out on tomorrow's task. He will seek out the dull red ore called ancient debris, which he will anodize to the gold and form valuable netherite. Though he has no use for it, he knows that the human creatures' fierce desire for it. They will pay exorbitant amounts of gold for it. It seems that their race is here to stay in his dimension, and he may as well take advantage of their uneasy truce.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Piglins are a sapient species resembling humanoid pigs. They are bipedal. Instead of feet they have hooves, but they do have large, stubby hands that resemble human hands. Piglin skin comes in a variety of colors, such as pink, white, tawny, hoary, gray, and speckled. The skin is protected from the elements by a layer of thin hair. The ears may be erect, curled, or drooping. Both male and female Piglins will grow small tusks.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Piglins consume whatever food they can find in the Nether. Primarily, they eat fungus -- mostly crimson fungus and Nether wart. They also hunt Hoglins for food. Magma cream is considered a delicacy among them.

Biological Cycle

A piglin's tusks grow indefinitely. In most cases, they are able to keep the tusks worn to a manageable length through gnawing things and dulling them on rocks.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Piglins are very tribal or clanlike, with each clan having a chieftan who theoretically only answers to the Piglin High King.

Facial characteristics

As their name suggests, Piglins have rather porcine, or pig/boarlike facial features, with flat noses and muzzles, tusks, and tan, pinkish skin.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Piglins settle everywhere in the Nether except for Soul Sand Valleys. They like Crimson Forests and Nether Wastes the best.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Piglins have six senses: Sight, Sound, Smell, Taste, Tactile Touch, and Kinesthesis. Having poor eyesight, they rely on smell and sound as their primary sensory inputs.

Civilization and Culture

Major Language Groups and Dialects

The language most spoken by Piglins is Nethertongue. It uses no alphabet, being written in pictograms instead. While not primitive by any means, Nethertongue is a simple language that lacks much nuance or extra dressing. It is meant to convey information in a straightforward way. It is a no-nonsense tongue for a harsh environment.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

Agriculture plays a crucial role in Piglin society. Their staple crops are fungi: Nether wart, crimson fungus, warped fungus, and brown and red mushrooms. They also are capable beastmasters, having domesticated several Nether-native species for their benefit. They raise magma cubes (for their magma cream, which Piglins consume as a delicacy), blazes (to protect bastions and fortresses), ghasts (as transportation and beasts of burden), and striders (for transportation and companionship). Hoglins are hunted for their meat and for sport.
Unlike Testificates and their emeralds, Piglins use gold as a currency. Specifically, the main unit is gold bars. Although it does form in veins in the Nether, they value Overworld gold immensely as well. They forge armor and weapons out of it, despite its pathetic durability. Piglins value gold for its attractive color, resistance to corrosion, and rarity. In addition to gold, they also value commodities from the Overworld that cannot be found in their native dimension -- treasures like exotic animals, new foods, shiny objects, and anything else that appears valuable.
Piglins don’t have a lot of use for high art. They do appreciate stage plays, though, especially ones that feature action and audience participation. When high art does enter the picture, they like visual depictions of themselves.
Piglins fear death, undeath, and necrotic decay. Hence their hatred for Wither Skeletons, other undead creatures, and above all else the Wither. In their mythos, the Wither is a demon sent from the powers that be as a punishment.

Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals

When it comes to child-rearing, Piglin children are expected to roam various workplaces, so as to learn the rhythm of the work being done. Adults are expected to keep an eye out for said children.

Historical Figures

Common Myths and Legends

According to myth, the god Hogimal created them from the molten rock, and a being that resembles Turavus taught them to forge. A being resembling Ses’ser taught them agriculture, and a Herobrine-like being taught them animal husbandry.
