Richard Chase I was born to Kubo and Kresida Chase when the former was thirty-one years old, the second of four children. His parents noted in their personal writings that as a child, Richard was rather rambunctious and ill-behaved. His parents actually refused to let him attend state banquets for a few years, because he was notorious for stealing sweets and running wildly around the dining hall. Shortly thereafter, his parents directed him towards athletic training as a constructive outlet for his extra energy. As a result, young Richard had a vested interest in competitive running and fencing. He frequently challenged the castle staff to foot races around the greens and asked guests to spar with him. In his teenaged years, Richard lost interest in his athletic tendencies and turned towards more cerebral pursuits. He became drawn toward observing the way people think and act, which would develop into a lifelong love of studying the mind.
Even after his naming as Crown Prince at age eighteen, he did not give up his dreams for the position fate handed him. Richard's interest in psychology and other medicine sparked when he read King Jubilat’s journal, and asked his parents about studying medicine. He learned health sciences from a variety of tutors and expressed interest in going abroad to study psychology. Instead of travelling, however, his medical professors came to Treehold to teach him. He passed the program with flying colours and became the first Chase royal to hold a PhD-equivalent degree. In between his duties as king, Richard operated as a psychiatrist, working alongside the court physicians. [...] [...] Richard founds Jubilat Mental Hospital, dedicated and named for King Jubilat.
