Dourrun Bjorn

Early Life

Dourrun Bjorn comes from a small village in the mountainous region of the Drakhian Empire, in the area that was conquered from the Bergegthim. He specifically comes from a tribe of Bugbear Druids that act as scouts and hunters for the village, working to keep their seclusion as secret as possible. The head of the village is an elderly Hill Giant, who was exiled from his clan. He settled settled in this area, and the orcs, goblins, bugbears and other monstrous races in the area began paying tribute to him for protection. Over time, a small village was established, though to the general outside world, it is not really known about. Dourrun spent his early years learning the druid craft of his family, but quickly began training more for fighting due to he aptitude for it. One night, he snuck into the giant's house and stole a book of rune magic, which he quickly began learning and practicing in secret. A few years passed, and his secret was discovered, but not before he had learned all he could from the book. He discovered that the secret had been found out before the giant was told, and so he snuck once again into the giants hut, and stole Magic Items that the old giant had hidden away. He then fled west from the village, leaving appearances that he had been killed, though he is not sure if the evidence was believed.   Dourrun then traveled from his home in the mountains, down into the plains and flats of the Drakhian Empire. He had not explored much outside the mountains prior to this, so he was unfamiliar with much of the social norms of the lowlanders. He was confused the first time that a group of 4 young Draconborn came upon him while they were on their Dumvast. Dourrun was not aware that generally dragonborns are considered a higher species, and so did not give them the proper respect. Because of this, they challenged him to a fight. Dourrun accepted their challenge, but was surprised when as he finished the first fight, the other three attacked all at once. Furious that they would break the honor of the fight, Dourrun fought harder defeating them in a bloody battle that ended with two of the four dragonborn dead. He left the other two unconscious in the road, and wandered away from them. Over the next few years, he continued to wander the plains. He ran into many other groups who were on their Dumvast. As much as possible, he would try to leave them alive, but if the fight was not done honorably, he would become so furious that he would inevitably kill one or more of the group. Soon, in cities and towns there would begin to be rumors and stories of a creature known only as Prizak Ravin, or Ghost of the Plains in Common. One day, Dourrun came over a rise in the plains and saw the largest city he had ever seen in the distance. Little did he know at the time, but this was the capital of the Drakhian Empire.   Dourrun walked towards the city, and entered civilization for the first time since leaving his village. The guards immediately challenged him to a one on one combat, as was the tradition for outsiders to the city to gain entrance. He earned the right to enter, but not before he was forced to clean the grime and dirt from his body (He had not had a bath since the last downpour of rain, during the last storm season). He wandered the streets, looking at the sights, eventually coming upon the large coliseum, where he learned that he could sign up for many different types of fights and earn prize money. It was here, that he learned of the honor of the Champion of the Arena. Whoever won the yearly Summer tournament, would not only earn a large amount of gold, but also be chosen as the Champion, and would go to fight the armies of the Night King, along side the champions of the other nations of Luma, and their leaders. Wanting to grow in fighting skills, he signed on to the tournament. Much to the surprise of all, he quickly climbed in the tournament, easier than any other newcomer to the Arena had before. He did not have troubles till the later fights, where his strength was finally matched by other fighters who had earned glory not only in the arena, but also in the military and government. In the final three fights, his opponents were not only martial fighters, but also proficient in some magical art, and so his learning in Rune Magic allowed him to stay on par with his opponents. After many hard fought and back and fourth battles, Dourrun prevailed, and was named Champion of the Arena. He was brought before Drogak Rogan for the first time, and given one final test of strength. This was the first fight that Dourrun lost since leaving his village, but he earned the respect of Drogak.

The Long Night

Dourrun would go with Drogak to Koth Keep, and it was here that he met with the Champions of the other lands for the first time. Dourrun watched all of them during the first interactions, and determined a few things. First, the little dwarf was a descendant of someone he had learned was important to the Drakhian Society. Secondly, the champion for Cervo was likely the only one whom could take him on in a direct fight. Third, the Dark one had something off about him, and there was a deep darkness in his eyes. The last one, he determined was hiding her true form, as while she had was appeared to be fearsome muscles, there was no true strength in them. They determined that they would stay in the Keep to prepare for the coming battle. During this time, Dourrun would train with Rhogar, the dragon who had, in a previous lifetime, founded the Drakhian Empire. He would also challenge Themis, to determine her strength, and found that it was indeed formidable. Drogak had warned him that there were tensions between the Cervo and Drakhian empires, and so Dourrun wanted to determine the power of their champion, but without letting on his own exact strength, and so he lost the fight. After that fight, he redoubled his efforts in training with Rhogar, and earned a dragonmark for his efforts, showing that the Ancient Dragon approved of him. Soon after, they left for the battle field. Dourrun spent his time speaking with the wildlife who lived in the area, and using his past as a druid, he convinced many to fight with them.   The night of the battle came, and his call for the animals was unanswered, but they soon discovered why. All the animals in the area had been frozen solid. This deeply saddened the great bugbear, and angered him at the same time. They began climbing the mountain, and fought through some of the ranks of those who served the drake Valkuth. Near the top, they found a castle made of ice, and inside they found a king among the frost giants. Here they fought, and almost lost, but in the end, they prevailed. During the battle, Themis revealed that she carried the sword of Sylver, and after the battle, Getal asked her to relinquish the sword. Themis did, and Gretal took the sword. They moved forward and fought Valkuth, striking him down, but at the cost of Themis's life, and the near death of both Megumi and Gretal.   After the battle, Gretal came to Dourrun, asking for his help in returning the sword back to the Tomb of Sylver. He agreed. They went to talk to Drogak, who revealed that Eliza had already discovered that they had the sword, and was requesting an audience with him to force him to return the sword. Drogak revealed to them that if he did anything to publicly side with them over this sword, it would cause war between Cervo and Drakhian, something that he felt was not worth the trouble of fighting. After speaking for a bit, Gretal asked if Drogak could help her take the sword to Norvad. Drogak agreed that it would be a comprise, and tasked Dourrun with protecting her on the journey. He said that from that moment on, they were stripped of their ties to their old nations, and considered dead to the world. They were to travel to the coast, to meet a shipwright named Morgan, who would help them to enter the mists that surrounded the mythical land known only as Norvad. With a heavy heart, Dourrun accepted his task, and took Gretal through the portal, into the unknown.
