Forest Gnomes live in nomadic communities, living in harmony with nature and moving their encampments to avoid them impacting their environment. Forest gnomes primarily live in the forests and jungles of Golaria, however they will roam to the far reaches of Koi should there be a need.Secretive
Forest gnomes are often secretive and reclusive preferring the company of nature to any other. Their reluctance to interact with outsiders and their efforts to conceal themselves results in many outsiders believing that forest gnomes are a myth. A common rebuttal to this myth is asking where baby gnomes come from, since rock gnomes are almost exclusively male.Naming Traditions
Family names
Family names, the family name of the mother, are given to gnomes when they are born. Gnome babies do not otherwise get names until they are distinguished as a forest gnome or rock gnome.
Culture
Culture and cultural heritage
Each year, during the winter months, forest gnomes make camps outside of the cities of Golaria and prepare for their mating ritual. Over the course of a month forest gnomes who are ready to mate enter the city, select a rock gnome mate of their choosing, and stay with them for a single night. After that night they return to their community camp, and return to the forest at the end of the month.
On the 2 year anniversary of the mating ritual, any babies born a rock gnome are returned to the city. The mother will select a gnome to be the parent of the child. The selected parent need not be the birth father, and rarely is. The mother may chose any gnome who is not already caring for a child under the age of 15, making every gnome an only child to a single parent.
Common Customs, traditions and rituals
Forest gnomes are the stewards of the natural world. They will head the call should there be a natural disaster to be averted...or caused.
