Thornwick Avowed

The Thornwick Avowed or Lesser Avowed are an eclectic bunch of scholars, wizards and scribes who staff the Library of Thornwick, an adjunct library of Candlekeep in greater Faerun. They are wise and powerful and utterly lost without Librarian Cuthburg, the ancient scribe who until recently was a permanent fixture of Thornwick's halls. In the aftermath of Cuthburg's death, the Avowed have discovered great swaths of knowledge, tasks and sections of the library that the old woman had been quietly caring for since time immemorial, and they have been left reeling and trying to pick up the slack.

Structure

The Avowed have an overcomplicated formal structure, with layers upon layers of unnecessarily complicated bureaucracy and overly fanciful titles. The only one with no titles whatsoever, Librarian Cuthberg, was the most valuable person in their organization.

Culture

The Librarians are dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge and the creation of new magics and technologies. They fund Tiriande's university, gleefully preying upon its alums and inventions, but care little for the rest of the city. Those without knowledge or magical acumen interest them not.
As such, they left the management of the library's mundane matters to the late Librarian Cuthberg. Some say they were entirely unaware that said matters even existed.
