The Underground Code
This code is only used by those who belong to or exchange business with the Underground. A basic written form of this code is used on Underground Bricks to give directions and details about the nearest Underground event. Most of the time, the code is hidden from view behind glamours, however, for grey-area trades, the code is far simpler and in plain sight, though it is still unreadable to those who don't know the code.
In it's simplest form, a diagonal scratch will indicate the direction one should walk in to find the location. If the scratch is pointing down from right to left, you should go left, and vice versa if it points down from left to right. A horizontal scratch at the top of the brick indicates you should go forward, while one at the bottom indicates that you should go back. If these lines are wiggly, then it means you should go up or down rather than forward or back. The distance any of these scratches are from the centre of the brick indicates how far you should travel, where approximately 0.5 cm equals 0.25 miles.
The basic spoken form uses English words and phrases but assigns them new meaning. For example, something along the lines of "I heard it's meant to be hot at the weekend" means just what it says in English, but also means "I need someone to commit arson" in Underground Code.
The basic written form used for everything except the grey-area trades is far more complex than the simplest form. It is a combination of unnoticeable scratches and glamoured pictograms. For example, small triangles mark the date of the upcoming event, while the stylised drawing of a bird pointing left means the upcoming event will have books, and a bird pointing right indicates no books or scrolls will be available for purchase.
Geographical Distribution
A rudimentary understanding of the written form of this language is only found within the UK, in people who are customers of the Underground. Those who are regular customers, or customers who wish to request something highly illegal learn the basic spoken form of this code in order to make those requests. The only ones who understand Underground Code fluently are the high ranking members of the Underground itself.
