Firbolg

The firbolg are a curious race of creatures native to the Forest of Neldorin. It’s believed that they descended from Giants who foreswore the Primordials to serve the Primal Spirits. Although their great stature was stripped from them by the Primordials for their betrayal, the Primal Spirits gave these gentle folk the talent to speak with beast and tree, the power to blend in with other folk they met, and tricks to escape unseen from foes who misunderstand them.
Firbolgs organize into loose tribes which more closely resemble extended families. Every community has a leader called a Skati, usually chosen for wisdom and a reverence for the land. A skati leads their people in quiet, peaceful ways, living with the woods, gathering only what they need, and causing no harm to the forest. Fires are only built with dead wood, and they are closely watched to make sure they do not cause any damage. A natural fire, however, is closely watched and only guided away from firbolg homes, otherwise being allowed to destroy what it must. Firbolgs know that fire is sometimes needed to clear the way for new growth.
Firbolgs who leave the woods are usually in exile, as few would choose to leave voluntarily. Since firbolgs have no prisons and would never consider slaying one of their own, exile is one of the only ways they can punish those who transgress. Those who know the firbolg ways are likely to be suspicious of firbolgs found outside Neldorin.
