Lake of Lost Memory

 

The Lake of Lost Memory is a large freshwater lake that almost divides Aldorath in half, running east and west along its interior. It was once a large valley called the Valley of the Subtle Arts, home to the Universitas Magesterium. During the Second Witching War, in order to prevent the Witch Queen or the Goblinoids of Gristamere from seizing its secrets, the wizards of the Universitas Magesterium shattered the center of the continent, letting the sea rush in. Over time, mountain streams have fed the lake, causing it to lose its salt nature, washing most of the ocean salt into the Foulweed Fens to the southeast.

With the destruction of the Universitas Magesterium, most wizards now choose to study in seclusion, or in much smaller schools, such as the Cerulean Academy. Many of them are descendants of those who survived the Lake’s creation, teaching the secrets of the Universitas to students who no longer remember their sacrifice.
