Lothas and the River Troll
Sir Lothas and the River Troll is a legend circulated through various cultures. It is particularly beloved among Firbolgs, who insist that Sir Lothas was one of them, as Lothas is a traditional firbolg name.
In the legend, Sir Lothas is on a quest, when he comes to a nearly impassable river. He encounters a terrible river troll, who wants to devour him, but he tricks the troll into carrying him across under the pretense that there is a flower on the other side that makes fey-meat more delicious. Sir Lothas promises to glut himself on these flowers for the troll, and the troll takes him at his word. When he gets to the other side, Sir Lothas leaves the troll behind, causing the troll to curse bitterly at him.
Although similar versions of the legend appear as interstitial elements to longer legends, some choose just to tell the story on its own, as it highlights Sir Lothas’ cleverness over his martial prowess.
