Medusa

Medusae (singular medusa) are a race of monstrous humanoids who resemble snake-haired humans with grayish skin. When someone meets their gaze, that person can be turned to stone. According to myths, this began when a beautiful Warlock entreated her patron to grant her eternal beauty. The capricious patron granted her request, giving her a ritual to follow. At the end of the ritual, however, she found herself changed into a monster...eternally beautiful, but unable to be beheld by anyone without destroying them. As the ritual propagated, more and more medusae were created from spellcasters whose vanity outweighed their common sense.
Curiously, in the lands of Keshwan, the magics of The Rending  changed the local medusae even further, giving them serpentine bodies. These transformed creatures can live eternally, getting larger and more powerful as time goes on. The Azmartheon Medusae, as they are called, have flocked to their own kingdom of Fithia under the banner of Queen Thalassia, a massive, elder medusa who may be the first of all medusa-kind.
