Phoenix

The Phoenix is one of the Primal Spirits, an embodiment of renewal and rebirth. Appearing as a huge bird of prey, it is said to age from birth to adulthood to old age over the course of every year. On the eve of Midsummer, the bird, grown ancient and feeble, lands in its nest one last time, having constructed an “egg” over the course of the year. At midnight, it bursts into flame, immolating its nest and itself. At dawn, the egg, incubated by fires so intense that no other can draw near, hatches. The baby phoenix then emerges, only to grow to adulthood by the next Dawn. It then rules in splendor until the following Midsummer, when it ages, dies, and is then born again in a constant cycle of rebirth. Some have wondered what would happen if this cycle were ever interrupted…
