Catfolk
Overview
Catfolk are a feline race that originates in the Woods of Jira. While most are bipedal, they come in a large variety of shapes and sizes with the most common being referred to as the Tabaxi subspecies. These are the ones most commonly found outside the Woods of Jira and are typically explorers due to their inherent natural curiosity found in most Catfolk.
Catfolk's lifespan is typically around 40 years but have been known to live into their 60s in rare instances.
Hierarchy
Catfolk of all sorts with the exception of Leonins, are very independent creatures and while in the Woods of Jira they do tend to form clans it is not uncommon for an individual to go off on a whim and not be seen or heard from in quite some time.
When it comes to ruling most clans typically refer to the eldest when it comes to the rare decision that affects the entire clans. The Leonin Prides, there are 3 total, have an established hierarchy however. Each pride has a prince, with one clans having the all powerful ruler, the King.
Culture
Due to their independent nature it is hard to pin down a specific culture that the Catfolk embody. However, overall most Catfolk tend to be reclusive and wary of strangers with the exception of the Tabaxi who tend be curious about new things and not anti-social like other species of Catfolk.
Further cultural subsets can be found in each of the 4 individual clans. Some clans tend to favor a high importance on ones hunting prowess while others may care more about an individuals fighting ability.
The 4 individual clans are...
T'ualo Clan
Raju Clan
Echatal Clan
Inda-Jho Clan
Subspecies
Tabaxi
The most common of all the Catfolk outside of the Woods of Jira, Tabaxi tend to prefer small groups to socialize with instead of full independence like other Catfolk. They enjoy the small talk and learning about other races not necessarily out of a sense of friendship, but out of curiosity at what makes them tick and in their eyes, so weird.
Most Tabaxi are commonly found in the Echatal Clan but can also be found in the other clans as well.
Oriens
The smallest of the Catfolk, they are known for their small size, quick wit, ferocious attitude. Think little man syndrome but with lightning reflexes and claws and that's typically their personality.
Wyans
The second smallest of the Catfolk, they are typically of stockier build then Oriens and unlike most Catfolk walk on all 4s. Commonly mistaken for a large bobcat or small mountain lion, they are rare in number but always tend to be in important places. They also have a semi shapeshifting ability allowing them to turn into a very feral sort of small human or elf depending on the Wyan. They are fond of the Dwarves and Orcs for unknown reasons. Some Human philosophers think it is because of the Wyan's love for change combined with the brashness of the Dwarf and Orcish leaders. Other philosophers believe wars have been started because of Wyan's fondness of stirring the pot.
Leonins
Leonin's reside in the golden clearings found in the Woods of Jira. They typically represent the Catfolk when they are faced with an outside force that cant be resolved as it happens whether it is diplomatic, trade related, or militaristic in nature.
They are the largest of the Catfolk oftentimes 7 foot tall and are known for their ferociousness in battle. They tend to stick close to their homes in the Woods of Jira and if seen venturing out in force, one must heed caution for what is to come.
While confident this also causes much quarrel with those not used to the tenacity of the Leonins. Most Catfolk are used to the Leonins inherent swagger and tend to treat them similarly to how people treat Texans as they are full of pride and will make sure you know about their greatest achievements and how their Pride is better than the rival Prides.
Leonins do have much to be proud of however. They are by far the most consistent among the Catfolk with an established hierarchy, and deep family ties across the Prides. While the Prides do come into conflict from time to time with each other, it never tends to last long as once a fight breaks out, which happens quite fast, the grudges are dropped just as fast. Which is unusual for most Catfolk as most of the time grudges are a fun thing to a Catfolk.
Almost all Leonins are apart of the T'ualo Clan.
