Angel

Written by amykyst

Little is known of the angels that made their first home in the Old World. To humanity, their existence is largely confined to fairy tales as helpful maidens and wise men, or cultural legends as indomitable warriors and cunning temptresses.   The Eon Holy Church has made use of their familiar image to pull strings and shepherd new followers, for humanity is quick to understand their powerlessness and entrust their fates to a virtuous higher power. Eon is apparently the archangel of Toran that resides in the holy southern province far beyond end of the seas. The Church portrays angels in literature and art as healthy, tall humans with righteous desire and kind hearts. This interpretation contradicts the old legends that perceived angels as both saviors and sadists.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Angels' physical structure is largely based on the natural and arcane aspects that they embody. Their true appearance (as some may possess illusion or morphing techniques), can vary from fair and humanoid to unearthly and nearly indistinct from pure mana clusters. All angels have a pair of wings that may be either white or black. This shade is not indicative of their moral alignment.

Growth Rate & Stages

Angels are theoretically immortal in that they do not age, but they may undergo many physical or spiritual transformations as the eons pass. However, angels can be slain with the appropriate blessed or cursed weapon.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

These features vary depending on thaumaturgical power levels and aspect bias. Archangels have been known to have semi-omnipotent capabilities and some command over the fundamental properties of spacetime.

Civilization and Culture

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

The angels of the Old World gave life to the first elves, a race meant to serve as slaves and soldiers for the angels. After the cataclysm and the migration of a portion of the Old World's angel and elves into Toran, the elves of Toran sought freedom from their masters. Abandoning the angels, the majority of elves found a new home in the west and abandoned their overlords to build a new society, mingling with the humans of Toran. Angels will strive to preserve their secrecy, and so they avoid retaliating against humanity.
