Balgowaith

An ancient race, the dwarves once had a monopoly on trade between the two mountain ranges, creating the two great cities of Balgowaith in the east and Balderdash in the west. Several centuries after the appearance of the dwarves did the humans come into Toran, and quickly built their own society to coexist with their shorter counterparts. This relationship of trust and trade took place for a few thousand years, and then the dragons awakened.   Long since deemed extinct, the serpentine beasts slumbered to Balderdash, laying siege to the dwarves with fire and storm. The humans of the plains sent who they could, but weak farmers and petty hunters were nothing compared to the reinforcement from Balgowaith. In a show of superior strength and numbers, the warrior dwarves decimated the dragons’ forces and sent them flying back to their defiles and hills.   However, the ostentatious dwarves left Balgowaith open to the ice drakes, which, long thought deceased, had risen in blizzards to claim the treasures and halls of the western kingdom. What forces they had left were strong, but did not hold true against the cold night. The icy serpents indiscriminately slaughtered every man, woman, and child to be seen. A once warm and rich homestead to the race of dwarves and man other folk had been ruined by the dwarves’ folly. Now only the prosperous city turned trading and mining stronghold, Balderdash, exists along with the vast kingdom of Eradrin, which too had been tainted by the evils lurking in the pits of Gulag.
