Gulag

The city fortress of Gulag is an old civilization of the eastern dwarf people, and became mark of terrible evil after the necromantic disaster that reaped it. A great mining operation was taking place, and dwarven magi were experimenting on black crystals to attempt to harness their unique properties. They were a great source of fuel, and the gems when crushed served as an tastier version of salt for food. Too much of a good thing could never have more devastating consequences. The magic of the black crystals triggered one day, and every living thing under the mountain in Gulag choked on death. Thousands of the living became cold as the stone they carved that day. No one has ever wandered close to its bare halls since, but brave passersby hear tell of unearthly growls and shrieks from its depths.
