Adelbern
King Adelbern, later known as the Sorcerer-King, was the last monarch of dragon-controlled Kingdom of Eldrida. To prevent the revolutionary to conquer the capital city in the late stages of the revolution, the Sorcerer-King used his legendary sword to unleash the Foefire, a spell that destroyed the capital and led to the creation of the Foefire Domin of dread with countless ghosts who fight for their king even in Death.
Following the untimely demise of the rightful heir to the throne and son of king Doric and the passing of King Doric, Adelbern was unexpectedly crowned king, bypassing the claim of Duke Barradin. Despite this deviation from the line of succession, Barradin graciously accepted the decision and respected the will of the people. Barradin and Adelbern's children, Lady Althea and Prince Rurik, were intended to be wed to unite and strengthen the two bloodlines.
However, some Barradin loyalists disagreed with Adelbern's crowning and became rowing bandits known as the Royalists whose mission was to harass Adelbern's supporters and place the duke on the throne.
The revolution eventually took hold in the city of Rin in 3043 BD, which became a symbol of shame and defiance for the king. Despite the mounting pressure and the prospect of surrender, Adelbern's resolve remained unyielding. He was unwavering in his determination to defend the city and quash the uprising.
During the final attack of the revolution in 3042 BD, Adelbern plunged his sword into the ground, channeling the power of an artifact to spread his will and unleash a curse known as the Foefire upon the land. The Foefire was a desperate act by Adelbern as revolutionary forces were storming the capital city. Although a group of infiltrators from the revolution had intended to kill Adelbern, they instead encountered his servant, Savione, who warned them of the king's madness and his plan. Despite the warning, the revolution proceeded with their attack. The capital city was overrun, and as soldiers attempted to retreat, Adelbern unleashed the Foefire. The result was the death of the revolutionaries and the complete annihilation of every Human in the city. Their bodies were destroyed, and their souls were cursed to forever "protect" the land, perceiving any living being as a threat and constantly reforming themselves after destruction.
Adelbern's decision to not only eliminate the revolutionaries but also to curse the land itself was a fateful and horrifying choice. He chose to sacrifice his own people rather than let them escape. This curse consumed Adelbern's soul, transforming him into an arch Wraith, and turning the capital city into a realm of darkness known as a Domain of Dread.
By 3025, Adelbern's ghostly form had reformed as an archwraith, master of the newly formed domain of dread.
