Nexus Overflow

Malygos, god of Magic, driven by a desire to prevent future betrayals among gods and to avert further wars, sought higher powers. In pursuit of this goal, Malygos caused the Nexus—a link to the Elemental plane of weave that he protected—to grow and expand.
However, the consequences of his actions were violent. The burgeoning nexus caused the world's crust to splinter as the Weave flowed in immense quantities onto the material plane. This influx of magical energy infused everything, from plants to beasts to monsters, blessing many with the essence of the weave.
