History

Childhood

Akane is a Kalashtar, born in a nomadic tribe in Green earth. Her people, and herself, are very closely related to the spirits, Seeking wisdom and help with those spirits. But on rare occasions, this link to their spirit can be severed, or damaged. This is what happened to Akane when she was still a child. the Quori (the name for spirit among Kalashtar) named Sgail guiding her family had been pulled into the abyss and turned into one of their demons.
This event was like torture for Akane and her family, suffering through their link to their Quori, driving them mad. Her father, driven insane, started to attack Akane and her mother. Despite the pain and the suffering, her mother shielded her daughter, and in her dying breath, severed her daughter link to their family Quori. Akane passed out after this.
When she awake, both her father and mother were dead, and she was chained, surrounded by her tribe's members, as they were debating what to do with her. Most of them telling the story of how her parents had gone mad, and how she was certainly plagued with the same illness, and she had to be killed. The few others saying her link to her Quori had been severed, that she wasn't one of them anymore and that she should be exiled.
Witnessing her own people rejecting her, Akane didn't felt any anger or anything, she just felt empty, her whole life, she had felt a link with her Quori, her whole life she was under her parent's guard, now she was alone... entirely alone. This lack of emotion probably saved her, as her tribe judged it would be more of a punishment to exile her.

The Seekers

Alone, she found herself barely alive, a state in between life and death, as she was plagued with visions and ghosts of her parents. One day, she found herself in a caravan in the Lightfoot Kingdom, traveling aimlessly, unsure of what she was doing. Another member of this caravan was a member of the Seekers, and found young Akane extremely interesting. Akane remembers very clearly the first thing that man ever said to her "You also the ghost of your past, don't you?".
For the very first time since she was exiled, Akane heard something that made her react, she had the feeling she wasn't alone anymore, the feeling she was not the only one like this. Akane and the seeker talked a lot, and she learned that life was valuable because it is thanks to it that you honor those who died for you, or by your blade.
Sadly, the lessons of this wise teacher were short-lived, Akane barely had the time to be taught that demons were responsible for her pain, that the caravan was under attack. Horrific monster taking the caravan by surprise, and killing Akane's teacher. She was paralyzed, it was all happening again, the first person she dared to talk too again died in front of her eyes. The monster ignoring her, as she didn't even seem alive to their eyes.
But, another vision of her dead parent struck the young girl, and the first word of the seeker resonated. From now on, she will live, she will fight, and she will live a life to be remembered.
Taking on the blade, Tabard, and armor of the dead Seeker, Akane turned to face the monsters. This night, she killed for the first time, those two monsters falling to her blade. She was far from a skilled warrior yet, but the monster had been weakened by the previous fight.

The Hunter and the Prey

Wearing the symbol of an order that wasn't her own, Akane started to do exactly as she had sworn, leaving a life free from any restrain. She was an outlaw, an exiled from her people, she had very little respect for the law of this kingdom, or for the law of any kingdom, all she wanted, was to destroy evil and to make a name as such.
Becoming some kind of mercenary, a bastard adventurer, who was fighting evils of all kinds. Her definition of demon and evil was quite advantageous for her, one day, the evil she wanted to fight was the terrifying monster plaguing a small village, the morning after, it was this bartender who scammed travelers. Her action made her a wanted criminal, and more importantly, the rumors of a treacherous seeker started to spread, and soon, the actual seekers also looked for her.

As strong as she had become, she couldn't do much again a squadron of knights sent by the Seekers against her, and she was captured. During her time as her prisoner, Akane learned a lot more about actual fiends, and about demons. In the 4 months that she was restrained, she was able to learn everything one could learn about how demons use spirits, how new demons are created, and the danger they represent to Toriel.
With this new understanding, she asked for a deal with the order. Becoming one of their members, and working for them to repay them for the trouble she had caused. It is not normally the kind of deal the order would accept, but Akane managed to be persuasive enough. and the white tabard she had once recuperated, was now the official mark of her allegiance.
She spent years, climbing the hierarchy, training, and becoming an important member of the Seekers.

Seeker's Duty

Akane was informed of the movement of an archdevil, the Seekers mission focusing on demons, they often take care of fiend as a whole. A small village was the center of activity of numerous spies of Elise Kythera Zaavan, an archdevil, as she had infected numerous of the inhabitant with her parasites. The mission would require eliminating any threat, and Akane knew what that meant, she took her most trusted knight, including Maria Cainhurst, and went on this mission.
The Seekers arrived at the village, only to discover their detection magic was useless, the parasites were hiding too deeply within their host to be detected. It is with a heavy heart that Akane had to order to kill and mutilate every villager to kill any parasites. The various demon hunter running through the village, killing the helpless citizen, their blood flowing on the ground, mixing with the heavy rain during this dark night.

The massacre was swift, the Seekers were experienced killers, and the villagers, even those who tried to defend themself, were helpless against their sword. Each demon hunter knew it was for the greater good, but the mission took a heavy toll on their morale. With the bulk of the citizen killed, Akane started to wander through the streets, making sure no survivor was left.
She saw a young woman, hiding under a table, the woman started to run away through the streets, already covered in blood. Akane didn't even have to run, the young woman, a shifter, probably still a teen had fallen already. Akane stayed there, facing the shifter, her sword in hand, lightning flashing in the sky behind her, the blood of previous villagers still running along her blade. Tears where running down the Seeker cheek, but she had to do it, whispering "I'm sincerely sorry" as her blade pierced the shifter's heart.
Kalashtar do not dream, they connect to their quori, and since this eventful day, a new quori linked itself to Akane, the spirit of this shifter girl, bringing flashback of the horrible night to her memory, forcing her to wake up crying for the countless innocent she had to kill.
With her racial power re-aquired, Akane became one of the strongest member of the order, and especially after this incident, her wisdom was recognized by all, enough to allow her the accession to the council of three leading the Seekers.

A new Dawn

Adventuring in Tana's Empire, Akane was travelling toward Holypertuis were she was told about about demons using as monster to fight in the undercity. On her way, she was making small coins, serving as a monster hunter, and exterminating various threats, but she soon arrived at a village, that strangely enough, wasn't in need of any help. Curious, the seeker started to look for the reason for this lack of monsters to eliminate in the region and soon learned about a certain Annabelle Longfang, a local monster hunter. Pleased to hear this news, Akane wanted to hear her story and looked for her in an attempt to pay her a drink.
What she found was unexpected, Annabelle Longfang was a shifter, alone, she was facing four templars, most likely from the Church of Waukeen, tho, their origin was hard to guess with the blood covering their holy symbol. With a quick glimpse, Akane was able to understand the situation, that the church was known to hate shifters, and Annabelle Longfang becoming the local monster hunter draw too much attention to the young girl.
She rushed toward her to help, but it was too late, the fox-girl had been wounded, a large strike slashing her back. But her enemies were greatly diminished already, and when Akane arrived, she only had to finish the last templar. now close to the young girl, she was struck by the resemblance with the one plaguing her night, the one she had to kill that one night in this infected village.
Swearing to herself, she would repay her debt to the girl of her nightmare, she reached for the wounded fox-girl, helping her. Akane spent the week tending to the weakened Annabelle, the two grew closer, and when Annabelle was back on her feet, Akane proposed her to come with her to Holypertuis.
Annabelle agreed, and the two became partner to hunt the evil. the shifter's talent were incredible, and with Akane teaching, she was getting better everyday. Soon, with Akane's advice, Annabelle joined the ranks of the Seekers.
