Genie

Genie is a hypernym used to refer to the inhabitants of the elemental planes of the forces of nature: Earth, Air, Water, Fire, Weave.
Genies are an ancient race of elementals, dating back before known history. Unlike most elementals, genies are free-willed and sapient beings, and their souls are made out of elemental energies. They can be compared to other elementals akin to how humans are to other animals.

Culture

Genies are sometimes bound to Magic items and forced to serve others. Examples of these items include a ring of genie summoning, a lamp of genie summoning, and an astrolabe of entrapment. All genies resent this kind of enslavement.
To free a genie trapped in such servitude, one must either destroy the binding device or use a wish to set them free. Genies who are freed from imprisonment are almost always incredibly grateful to their liberator, but they do not linger for long after being freed.

Biology

Genies are born when the soul of a sentient living creature merges with the primordial matter of an elemental plane. This rare coalescence of elemental-infused soul forms a genie with a manifest form. The life force of the sentient creature determines the genie's form, apparent gender, and one or two key personality traits, however, the genie usually retains no connection to the original soul.
