Citadel of the Mage Academy

The Citadel is a big lone standing building inside the academy of the mage order. It white and blue façade impress everyone who sees it. It was construcet by Prisum Rotec the founder of the mage order.

Purpose / Function

The Citadel is the headquarters of the mage academy and the seat of the wise ones. Thousands of students learn here, their way with magic and grow to be a mage once.
Every magic expedition on the continent be it help after a flood or a noble wants support, it will be sent from here.
The underground areas of the citadel contain the grand library of magic and history and countless laboratories and experiment chambers.

Alterations

In the beginning the citadel only existed out of the lower floor of the teaching halls. Over the time additional floor were created to created room for the ever-growing number of students and latent people.
After more and more knowledge were brought to paper, the small at the time citadel couldn’t fit all books and scrolls. So, the first floor of the grand library was built.
The tower of the wise ones was the last addition to the citadel. It was only built to show off the power of the mages during a time where mages weren’t known all over the continent.

Architecture

The Citadel is a massive building inside the academy building complex. It is one of the most advanced buildings on torika. Architects from all over the continent are travelling to the academy to witness this grant building and try to figure out how it was built. Its main features are the underground grand library of magic and history, the big teaching halls, where nearly all students learn and the tower of the wise ones. Where the leaders of the academy reside.

The grand library

I stand in awe by the sight of this fountain of knowledge, which was locked away for millenniums.
- Black Knight escorted by 20 high level Mages
The grand library has six levels of which the lowest two are forbidden for anyone below the sixth ring. The main entry are the elevators which are leading between the ground floor and the first four levels. In the middle of the grand library is a big gapping hole through the first four levels. Its thirty meters across and in the middle of the hole hovers the main scours of the academy complex, a big metal ball fixated with metal chains to each level to hold in its place. Inside the ball lies the singularity core.
On each level are corridors of shelves with books, scrolls, letter and documents about magic, lineages, events and history. The walls of the grand library are decorated with paintings of great mages of the time and maps of major cities, nations and one of the continents.
The forbidden area contains books and scrolls of high tiered magic and demon magic. Magical guardians patrol the level. A barrier is casted around entirety of both level and in addition an alarm and surveillance systems are always active to stop intruders. Which are killed on the spot.

The teaching halls

Every day the same old steps, why won’t the teach allow us to build an elevator up?
- random student on his way to the fourth floor
Its faced is heavily decorated with statues of famous mages that brought fame and power to the order through many different means. It has five floors, with all of them the same size. The windows were a highly difficult task by the mages. The leading mages wanted square windows which are not as stable as rounded windows. So the mages reinforced the wood with magic and ornaments were burnt into the window frames. The first floor has one big hall in the centre, which goes through all floor, from which four hallways lead to the four entries. Every hallway has doors to classrooms and private learning rooms. From the central hall elevators lead to the grand library below and stairways to the next level.
The second and third floor mainly contains classrooms and offices for teachers.
The fourth floor has multiple storage rooms and the big cafeteria is located here.
The fifth floor is only accessible by teachers and mages of the sixth and seventh floor. The offices of the high mages are located here for private audience and questions. Also, the teleporter room for the tower of the wise ones is located on the fifth floor, which is the only entrance for non-mages to the tower. Close by the teleporter room is the principal office.

The tower of the wise

Did you ever wondered how they build so high up? ... Yeah truly impressive this blue colour.
- two farmer with the gaze on to the tower
The tower of the wise ones is the highest building of the continent with a height of over three hundred meters above the teaching halls. It is entirely built out of the metal Excalibur which shimmers in the evening sun blue. The lower levels contain the sources of the spells which are casted on to the building complex or the entire order, like the portals to the tower. Every wise one can choose which floor he wants to inhabit, most than decorate and change the floor as they please. The towers outside is forbidden to touch by the wise ones in order to guarantee the safety of the tower.

History

The Citadel was built, as the first building constructed by mages and magic, to harbour all the scatter mages and people interested in magic. The laying of the foundation stone was in 3509 BDD. Five year later the construction finished, and the mages founded their own organization. In the following centuries mages grew stronger because of the high dragons that teaches them magic.
The mages flourished until Death was revived and laid waste to big areas around the northern parts of the continent. The mages tried their best at the time to stop the undead and the wild dragon but failed miserably. Only years later at the battle of the first demon did they achieve a major victory in sealing the demon portal. The general population of the area were grateful to the mages and supported them through out history. They followed the mages back to the citadel and created a small city around the building.

During the dragon’s downfall they were a major factor to kill dragons and hunt them down, even when they were the smallest part of the dragon hunter armies.
During the expansion of the great wasteland the mages from the citadel were the main factor to repel it.
100 years after the dragon’s downfall ten wise ones failed at an experiment and as the result the black knight was created, who killed all of them and fled from the site and is one of the most powerful beings ever created by the mages.

A small formatting note: If you got the wordcount to spare, I would consider putting another break-line after the last line before a new header. That way, there's some more space between them and they don't look so cramped together. :)
