Skyriver

The Skyriver is a mighty river, which origniates from the Himmelsgebierge (Heavenmountain). It flowes only through the nation of Kurwresen. Along it's course many small rivers join up with it and increases the speed and width of the river. The biggest river flowing into the skyriver is the long and strong Impireal Riverway.
The Skyriver splits into two rivers around the town of *1. The smaller river is the Netherriver and flowes up north along Niederfluss. The main river, still called Skyriver goes west to and ends into the western ocean.

Geography

The Skyriver is the main river flowing from the Himmelsgebirge. It also has two lakes in the mountains, formed from waterfalls that erroded the rock beneath it, carving bowls out of them.
The step fall of the mountains gives the river it's unique speed, compared to other rivers, beacause of this not many plants grow in the fast rapids of the Skyriver. Additinal the rapids create sharp rocks in the water, which are dangerous for climber, that want to follow the river upstream in to the mountain.
Only after the river starts to run smooth around the Golden Forest, plants are growing thick and dense along the riverbed. Behinde the merging of the Skyriver and the Impireal Riverway most plants seem to avoid the river. Same people say that it is because of the past where the wasteland reached the Skyriver and corrupted this part of the river.

Localized Phenomena

The splitting of the Skyriver was not a natural phenomenon. The first recording of the Netherriver was during the the crises of the wastelands. The wasteland made the ground brittle and the riverbed was breached. The river carried away the material until it reached a sunken way between *1 and *2. But nonetheless the nether river shrinks with time. In due time not long into the future the Netherriver will cease to exist and the Skyriver will grow back to its old size.
It's said that the Skyriver brings magical power from the mountain into the Golden Forest and change trees into beings that are able to move. None of thes beings were ever sighted by credible sources, but clearings vanshied or apperd without help. Sounds that no knowen animal make, can be heard or trees moving unnatrual at the edge of the sight. Many more things are reporeted, but no offical exploration confirmed such rumores. The Golden Forest is the only forest of such phenomena, beside the old Elben Forest in far south east.

Fauna & Flora

The Skyriver is the lifeline of many plantes, animales and supposedly other beings. The rapids bring minerals and air downstream and feed all the life.
The trees, especially in the golden forest, are unique to the skyriver. In no other area on the continent are they growing. Many tried, but all failed to cultivate the trees. The two most famous ones are the goak (golden-oak) and golden maple. Both trees are cultivated in orchards around the city Gulkara. The nuts and saps are used as ingreedients and the wood as building materials. The types of trees are renowen throught out the entire continent for their sometimes unnatural durability.
Some medicalherbs have boosted properties same with poisnes plants, but like the trees no plant can be cultivate somewhere else. All must be grown around the skyriver, inside the forest.

Uses

The Kurwresen use this river to travel between the cities along the river and in to the empire in the east. Because of the size of the river many boats can travel beside one another. The riverfairy is a company, that dedicates it's entire busniss around traveling on the skyriver. Their small ships travel between the cities multiple times per day and are granted subsidy from the royal family.
The city *1 uses the river to cultivate speacial species of water lilies, which bare fruits durning the summer and are loved in the kingdom.
Once a year the cities and villages on the skyriver celebrate it's existenz. Every places does in it's own way, but all try to give the river something back.

Cool article, and I like that you've addressed why the river was split like that. Maybe you could write a bit more on how the river affects the people living around it, or what influence it has on the cultures :)
