The Gate
For hundreds of years, Baldur's Gate, also known as the Gate, was a crowded city of commerce and opportunity, perhaps the most prosperous and influential merchant city on the western coast of Faerûn. But with money comes crime, and thus Baldur's Gate quickly became know for being ''a viper's nest of schemes and schemers''.

Modifications to the actual lore include: 1200s after the Great War:The Watch slowly gets corrupted and the Flaming Fists seem to have mysteriously vanished overnight from the walls of the city. Baldur's Gate becomes what it was always destined to be: a central hub for pirates, scammers, thieves and ne'er-do-wellers.
1490s after the Great War:
Creation of an underground fighting ring that pits weakling against one another.
Multiple men of different races keep being found dead and naked, with all of their valuables stolen. Some witnesses say that their, now dead, companions left them to "go find a woman'' minutes before disappearing. Their body would only be found on the next morning. Common folks started using this story as a cautionary tale for their kids. ''Find your bed before seven, or you'll be taken by the Siren''.
