Chapter 3: Verse 7 - The Meadow Runs with Blood Report
General Summary
Tragedy struck the party as they awoke the next morning to find their friend and party member, Kalbrin, assassinated in his sleep along with Phoebe and his dog Rook. This tragedy sent Zero into a violent rage where he started to scream and attack things around Kalbrin’s room. The party seeing his rage and destruction quickly worked to subdue him to calm him down. Upon getting their friend together so he can be put to rest, they noticed that the Voidining of his body completely vanished and he was just a normal looking human again.
A heavy heart to heart was had with Zero as the group laid out their entire concerns for his demeanor and actions, especially with his undead raising. Zero then agreed to not use his undead anymore unless in dire circumstances and would leave the corpses he’s collected below for use. The party turned their attention back to Kalbrin and the situation with Meadow and decided to continue their plan to consult the Sun Tree back in Whitestone with the assistance of Vapor .
The party at this point has split sending Bumble, Falan Elwind, Rabbie, Ignia, and Vapor back to Whitestone while Zero and Blovik Griblesnit stayed on the ShipFaced.
Blovik was having some heavy issues with food poisoning and stayed in his cabin the whole time trying to rest and completely unconscious for the duration of the following events.
While the rest of the party was away, Zero decided he wanted to continue his experimentations with magic and tried to reach out with his own energy and power to Universum. Universum being a mighty cosmic power that was greater of any magic or divine power available on the Prime Material Plane. However, the power requires immense amount of experience, training, and ascension of one’s soul to be able to touch and utilize the power without deadly consequences. Zero however wanted to try at least something. Using what he believed to be correct, he reached out beyond the Weave of Magic to sense Universum but it failed. Changing tactics, he tried to visualize the exact starry-night imagery of what Kalbrin had on his body and Zero felt some dormant power within his reaching. Ignoring his intuition, he reached out and gave energy to this dormant power and awoken one-half of the Void Demon that they previously fought. It became clear that when Zero made his wish to save both Kalbrin and Bumble, he sealed away in a mortal prison the void demon itself therefore never allowing it to take form again. But with the death of Kalbrin and the energizing of the void demon’s essence, it was awakened once more - determined to find its missing and imprisoned half. Zero did get a reward for his actions and thus was given a thread of connection to Universum, allowing him to continue his research and understanding of the power. But unfortunately things did not go well as Zero also tried to stop the demon from escaping and finding Bumble. Zero’s initial casting of Scorching Ray missed the creature completely as the battle begun. Zero tried to retreat to his corpse cellar so he can summon reinforcements but a Void Breath attack from the demon sealed his fate and dropped him down into the cellar where his body and spirit clung to the living for as long as they can.
Back in Whitestone, the remaining party members took care of their fallen friend with the Gravedigger to where Kalbrin will be placed in a cozy plot for his final rests along with Phoebe and his companion Rook. The friends decided a quick stop at the Tavern was a good idea as they wanted to drink to his memory and also discuss Zero amongst themselves. Bumble, Falan and Rabbie also took this time to get acquainted more with their new friend and Fire Ashari, Ignia. After a little while they took to the Sun Tree to get information about Meadow as Falan consulted the great tree’s wisdom. The Sun Tree told him that the devil-fiend who took Meadow’s spirit fled to the Nine Hells and to retrieve her would be a perilous task as it would require a trip to the Nine Hells or traveling to Wildemount to use a powerful magic that comes at great cost to use. Unsure of where or what he should do, Falan decided that he needed to leave the party to find out about Meadow and save her. Before heading back to the ShipFaced, Falan grabbed his horse named Light to bring back.
Upon arriving back to the small Hamlet town they were docked in, they found the remaining survivors were slaughtered all over the place. No signs of life in any of the beings that laid sprawled out from the town. Amongst the slain was what could have been the town leader from after the first orc invasion but he was tied upon a pole with a spear sticking out of his chest. On the spear’s tip was a note and written in fine vibrant calligraphy with crimson blood as ink were the words “Thanks. See you soon.”
The party quickly returned to the ship and searched it for Blovik and Zero. Blovik they found unharmed and still out from his sickness. But Zero was found in the corpse cellar clinging to life. Bumble and Falan having discussed exactly what to do if he would mess up again or if any more questionable situations arose with his involvement took the actions they dreaded most. Bumble picked up Zero and carried him to the main deck and with a quick swing of his arms, threw the elven wizard over the side of the ship, plummeting 80 feet straight the ground. The body became more damaged and was loosing its hold to life as Falan raised his bow. Looking over the body, Falan noticed that it was still holding onto dear life and took aim at the fading wizard. He knocked an arrow, held his breath, and fired. The arrow went straight through Zero’s head, ending his life.
Despite all the terrible and heartbreaking moments the party experienced today, from assassinations to stopping a darkened wizard they thought were their friend, Falan still said goodbye as the party looked one last time to their Dragonborn friend. He mounted his horse and said “Goodbye” as he rode off into the day, hoping something good would come his way.
