Session 1: A Red Letter Report

General Summary

One bright morning in Baldur's Gate, a young human noble named Kai stepped out his house, not knowing it would be his last time he would see his home for a very long time. He took the wand he always carries with him to the Bard College so he could play some music for the lovely ladies and aspiring musicians. While successfully scoring a date for the evening, a vision of a phoenix sent Kai telepathic message asking for his aid in an investigation. Visions of a man in a red robe appeared before him asking for his assistance in ending the Spellplague, a ravenous disease upsetting the natural cycle of death.   Meanwhile, half way across the continent, a tricky warforged gears up for another heist. The criminal commonly refferred to as Hatchet, is preparing to steal tools from a blacksmith in the town of Marsember, Cormyr. After failing to sneak in, he calmly walks in the front doors to hide. After casting a few spells and dashing really quick, he was able to make away with a smith's tool kit. While going through the loot, a vision of a phoenix appears before Hatchet. This phoenix blasts into flames on the ground and reads out a message "Dear adventure... Blah blah blah... Spellplague... evil lich... need help...". The letter indicates that Hatchet must meet with a stranger at a bar in town. He decided to spend a few days in town collecting a few other tools before meeting up with these strangers.   Back in Baldur's Gate, Kai prepares for his date. He has a few friends from the college set up a good night with music and candles. After a great meal and having a good time with his date, they decide to continue this walk down at the beach. Walking by the waterfront, the pair found crab eggs and spent the night watching baby crabs hatch and return to the ocean. The couple reitre to her dorm for the night. When Kai awoke next morning he had no money and his date had vanished. He spent the day playing in noble gardens, unruly taverns, and down by the docks just to make back his money and find out more information on this woman. After his pockets were well lined and he gained some base knowledge on this lady's identity, he decided there were more important matters calling to his attention and left to meet the man from his visions.   Hatchet was the first of the party to arrive. Watching people go in sober and come out drunk of this impossibly small hut, he figured out pretty quickly the bar was enchanted. As soon as he entered, he knew he was in the right spot. Sweet smells of shepards pie and warm juju beans mix with the dried blood from brawls. Yelling, chanting, singing, and screaming was how people seemed to interact with each other. None of this bothered Hatchet though, he was a criminal and the place was ripe with crime. He met up with a criminal contact of his looking for a job. He was offered a hit for a bank manger.   It was at this moment when Kai opens the bar doors and sees the party on the inside. Disguising himself as a criminal he blended in with the crowd until he saw the man from his visions. He wore long red robes and had a skull tatooed on his forhead. After recruiting the two adventurers for a quest, the unsure and unlikely duo cast off on their adventure. Find and destroy the origin of the Spellplague. Help Maligor defeat Malekei. Will they succeed or will they fall? Only the gods know... and the DM ;)
