Session 102: Whakin' the Kraken Report

General Summary

Session 102 – Wednesday March 16, 2022 – Whakin’ the Kraken

4.5 Hour battle session 5:30 PM to 10:30 PM

It is the 10th day of the month of Nightal (The Drawing Down) in the 3rd year of the Age of Enialis

Goals:

Gather the other parts of the god Destroyer sword (Blade, Hilt and guard)
Destroy the Amber Sarcophagi with the god Destroyer sword
Take the sword to the Summer Queen and have her destroy it.
Get dragon egg for Lady Cersei.

In or out of the Lair?

The water elemental in the lair encompassed Rolen, grappling him. Lucky saw a water elemental and after wishing for a crown of stars he shot one of the stars at the water elemental. Al zoomed deeper with Lucky on his back. Rolen used his blade of disaster to strike a nearby water elemental in the lair and then grabbed Doc and thunder stepped back up, outside of the lair. Tyrena (who had been swimming down all along as a shark) saw Doc and Rolen appear and stopped her decent. She waited for the next evil creature to appear. Doc force fed Rolen a potion of boldness. Slarkrethel, swam up just to the entrance. Slarkrethel shot a lightning storm at Doc, Al and Rolen and then did it again with a legendary action. Anna drank her potion of Storm Giant Strength. The Kraken smacked Rolen with his tentacle and grappled him. Jaquette (as the giant octopus) dashed down. A water elemental swam down and hit Jaquette so hard she lost her wild shape.

Looking down, the party saw 2 water elementals guarding the lair. Lucky cast Aid on Jaquette, Tyrena, and himself, increasing their HP max by 25. Then Lucky shot a star from his crown at the Kraken. Al dropped his polymorph and polymorphed Rolen into a Giant Ape. The Devil Shark swooped down towards the party. Rolen as a giant ape pounded on the Kraken to no avail. He then used his blade on the water elemental, destroying it. Jaquette dropped her concentration on Tyrena, back in her human form Tyrena pulled out her anti-matter rifle and shot the kraken. Doc saw the kraken and saw sharks approaching from above and below. Doc swam up to Tyrena and gave her an elixir of boldness. The Giant shark swam up from below and attacked Doc.

A Suggestion

The kraken “Suggested” that the battle was not going well, and the party should retreat and come back another day. Tyrena, Anna, and Doc all said, “Let’s get out of here.” The kraken then backed down into the murky water and into his lair. As he passed Anna, she punched him and then Anna swam straight up and then realizing that something was wrong, she dispelled the suggestion on herself. Jaquette (frustrated with the DM) blighted the devil shark and then swam down 15 feet. Lucky got smacked a couple times by a water elemental.

Lucky cast Suggestion on the party to “stay and fight.” At Lucky’s suggestion, Doc and Tyrena became very confused. Lucky backed away from the shark a bit. Al positioned himself centrally to all the creatures and cast destructive wave killing the Quippers and hurting the sharks and water elementals. The Kraken shot another lightning storm at Lucky, Rolen the Ape and Tyrena, breaking the suggestion spell on Tyrena. The Devil Shark bit into and then grappled Lucky in his mouth. Rolen used his blade of disaster on the water elemental at the entrance to the lair and then, as a Giant ape, started pounding on the Devil Shark. No longer compelled to leave, Tyrena aimed her anti-matter rifle at the Devil Shark and hit it once and then dove towards the Entrance to the lair but stayed away from the water elemental. Doc was able resolve his confusion and followed Lucky’s suggestion to rejoin the battle. Doc took a vial and headed to Rolen. Lucky saw what he was doing and dropped the polymorph. Doc healed Rolen and then gave Lucky a potion of “alter self.” Lucky began to look like he used to without pink hair. A Giant Shark went after Doc and missed, another went after Tyrena and bit her.

Slarkrethel gets serious

Lucky looked over at Al and Al said, “I’m not feeling so good” as he faded into a cloud of clover. Slarkrethel cast dispel magic on Al! Lucky said, “He’s going to die now.” Anna swam towards the lair and psychically hurt Slarkrethel just a little as Slarkrethel’s intelligence was too high to be badly damaged. Jaquette turned to the Devil Shark and blighted it horribly. Jaquette also used her spirit totem to give everyone some temporary health. Lucky cast destructive wave and wounded most of the sea creatures and destroyed the devil shark. Lucky then shot one of the stars from his crown at the water elemental near him. Rolen finished off the Water elemental at the lair with his blade of disaster plus a dagger attack.

Into the Lair

Rolen then went into the lair just a little. The kraken’s lair made Rolen vulnerable to lightning damage. Tyrena finished off the water elemental and swam down towards the lair. She then used her action surge and took two more shots at the Kraken. The kraken used its lightning storm at Tyrena, Rolen and Lucky. Doc grabbed Lucky and went into the lair. As he swam by, Anna grabbed ahold and went along for the ride. The Kraken went to smack Rolen, but Rolen used his eldritch armor and it finally worked!

The remaining giant shark outside the lair bit Jaquette. The Shark in the lair went to attack Anna but missed. The Kraken seeing the spell casters had no reactions and becoming very frustrated, cast Feeble mind on Rolen and moved back into the corner of his lair. The Shark in the lair bit into Anna. Anna went up to the Kraken and tried to open its mouth but was unable to force his mouth open. Anna swung at it twice but missed wildly. She then hit it with a flurry of blows. Jaquette dashed down into the lair and saw Rolen drooling. She signaled to Rolen to have him come closer. The Kraken swung at Anna and missed.

Lucky swam into the lair and cast destructive wave hitting both the shark and the Kraken. Lucky then hit the Kraken with a star from his crown. Wild Magic Hit Lucky and he gained the ability to walk on water for one day. Rolen dog paddled up to Jaquette. The Lair caused everyone to have vulnerability to lightning damage. Tyrena, Doc, and Anna were all then hit with a lightning storm. Anna avoided it, Tyrena dodged some of it, but Doc got hit so hard he lost concentration on his haste spell and was stunned for a few seconds. Tyrena blasted the Kraken with her anti-matter rifle. The Shark went after Rolen, but he fended it off even in his feeble mind state. Another Shark was able to hit. Slarkrethel cast lightning storm again against Tyrena, Doc, and Lucky. Doc again got hurt really bad and the whole party started looking pretty bad.

Oh how the turn tables.

Anna tried to open the mouth again but failed and then punched. The Kraken in turn smacked and grappled Anna. Jaquette grabbed a bead from her necklace and restored Rolen’s intellect. Jaquette swam down in front of the others. Lucky swam to the center and cast his destructive wave at both sharks and the Kraken, exploding one of the sharks. Lucky then hit the Kraken with a star from his crown. Rolen, getting his mind back, moved his blade of disaster against the last remaining shark and turned it into chum. Rolen dropped down 30 feet and removed a star from his robe and hit the Kraken with magic missiles. The Kraken released a large cloud of ink causing a little poison damage to everyone but plunged the area into complete blackness. Lightning erupted from all the walls striking everyone but not doing a whole lot more damage. Doc was down to 15 hp. Tyrena took a couple shots in the dark where she last saw the kraken but missed. Doc healed himself. Anna was flung at Jaquette, and both took bludgeoning damage. The little surprise continued to sink slowly towards the lair. In the darkness the kraken moved, grappled Lucky and flung Lucky at Rolen as it snuck into the exit.

The Kraken flees

Anna swam back to the place where she had last seen the Kraken but found he had moved. She cast ray of frost in a random direction but missed. Jaquette cast sunburst hurting the Kraken. Lucky didn’t know where the creature was and cast destructive wave but didn’t hit the Kraken. Lightning again shot forth from the walls doing minimal damage to the party. Rolen also couldn’t perceive where the kraken was and dashed into the darkness. Tyrena used a seeking arrow to hit the Kraken, but the Kraken dodged it. Doc, was able to find Rolen and others in the inky darkness and forced a healing potion in his mouth and also healed Lucky a bit.

The water around the party started to clear just a little but the water around the exit became an ink cloud. Slarkrethel, as he swam away, uttered a dark word and cast power word kill on Rolen. Rolen’s limp body floated in the water. Anna bolted after Slarkrethel in the darkness, and shot a lightning bolt straight up hitting the little surprise. But the Kraken had already exited the lair and was heading west along the ocean floor. Anna used her action surge swimming up out of the cloud. Looking around she saw the Kraken fleeing to the west and cast lightning bolt at it. But it was immune to any lightning damage. Jaquette rose to the top of the exit tunnel but still in the ink cloud she could not see where the Kraken went.
