Finishing with the hag

Lucky used one of his scrolls to speak with the dead hag and asked her:
  • “If I brought you back to life would you be willing to have a civil conversation” she replied “Of course I would.” But Lucky did not trust her.
  • “Do they know where I am?” She replied, “They know you’re around.”
  • “Who is the old friend who is looking for me?” She replied, “The granddaughter of the Summer queen.”
  • “What is her name?” She replied, “You would have known her as Tanallia.”
Lucky remembered, Tanallia was the daughter of Verenestra and Skerrit (Granddaughter of Titania.)

Freeing the ship

Tyrus directed the Orcs to chip away at the ice around the ship but the ice kept building unnaturally. Rolen purchased 70 flasks of oil and had the orcs spread it out as much as possible near the ship. Tyrus suggested that the ship sail out as soon as the ice is thinned by the fire. Rolen purchased 11 flasks of Alchemists fire.   The wind from the mountain suddenly stopped and the skies cleared. Rolen used 4 flasks of Alchemists fire to light the oil and the ice began to melt. Captain Pryor told Tyrus and Rolen to go check on their friends. Rolen and Tyrus headed off. They came to the ice fields and found half of a body of an Orc and a dead Remorhaz. They made their way to the hag’s cavern.

Exploring the caverns.

Anna and Lucky began exploring the caverns. Anna found a secret door and inside a large room guarded by a floating skull (Ice Flameskull.) The Flameskull cast a fireball at Lucky and Anna. Anna evaded the fireball and they saw a 2nd Flameskull in the center of the room. Lucky put a protective Globe of Invulnerability around Anna and himself. Doc and Jaquette ran towards the sounds and joined in the fight. They found a 3rd flameskull. Lucky killed one and Anna finished off the last one. Rolen and Tyrus arrived and found the party searching the room. In the room they found a bunch of stuff (See Treasure) For killing the hags, the human Medol gave the party what he had promised:

Returning to Port Llast

Early in the morning, Doc Douglan infused Rolen’s Breastplate with magic making it a +2 breastplate. He then mixed a potion and out came a purplish creature with 1 eye that the called Homunculus Servant #1. The party made their way back to Aurilssbarg. The day was quite beautiful, and the snow and ice were melting. The harbor was just about completely thawed, and the Crazy Suzan was back in the port. They party boarded and headed off to Port Llast. Tyrus sent a bird message to Captain Këvon in Mirabar. On the third day, he received a message back: “We’re holding them off, please hurry.”   Arriving in Port Last, Lucky went to get some food and the rest of the party went to the quarry to find Reginald Roundshield. Rolen gave Roundshield the bloodstone. Impressed, Roundshield gave it back. Now that that they proved their worth, Reginald Roundshield monologed for some time giving them all the details that he knew:
Both Mirabar and Gauntlgrym were utterly destroyed by the Dragons during the Reign of Tiamat. Miarabar was mostly destroyed above ground. The dragons wanted the dwarves to continue to mine. But Gauntlgrym was destroyed below ground. With the release of Magera, the mines were filled with molten rock sealing them off and basically destroying everything. King Bruenor Battlehammer was lost and the Dwarves of Gauntlygrm had no home. With their mines inaccessible and only a couple hundred dwarves remaining we looked to other clans for aid.   King Bruenor Battlehammer's son, Zyark, the rightful heir of Gauntlgrym was angry at Mirabar for not aiding us. Zyark is immature, petty and vindictive. He became corrupted with envy and hatred. He openly said, "The Dwarves (and men) of Mirabar refused to assist and if the dwarves of Gauntlgrym have nothing then the inhabitants of Mirabar should have nothing also."   Bruenor's Brother Farimour Battlehamer rose up and disagreed publicly with Zyark. He pointed out that Dwarves do not take vengeance upon other Dwarves. He agreed that no dwarves of Gauntlgrym would ever aid Mirabar again, but said our strength is better to be spent on finding a new home. He wanted to examine other opportunities. If it made sense to re-dig Gauntlgrym then we could pursue that, but we should look at other lands also. He told Zyark that his pursuit of vengeance is another example of his immaturity and disqualifies him from leadership. He challenged Zyark for leadership of the clan. Farimour defeated Zyark. But he did not kill him. He showed him mercy and respect because he was family. He said, "There has been enough dwarf blood spilt by our enemies; We cannot continue with these traditions." Zyark, called Farimour too weak to lead. He pointed out that Farimour would rather hunt than dig for Mithral. The clan split into two factions and more Dwarves followed Farimour's lead but Zyark still has a following of about 100.   Farimour headed to Port Llast where we knew we could find easy work. He split the clan into various smaller groups who reside along the sword coast. The intention is to find a better place to mine and then reunite again to build our new home. We had 2 reports that Zyark, seems to have made a deal with some Gnolls somehow. We were under the impression he was leading them to Gauntlgrym. But putting this all together and now with the Gnolls killing Farimour, it is clear Zyark is the source of the issue in Mirabar. He and about 100 Dwarves who follow him.   Zyark is the opposite of Farimour. Where Farimour is lean and swift. Zyark is Strong and intimidating. Farimour was reasoned and wise. Zyark is young and impetuous. Zyark is not one to be trifled with. He does have a few capable dwarves with him. General Gronor being one of the best of any Dwarf clan. For some dwarves, Loyalty to the heir and Dwarven tradition is more important than self-preservation.   We believe he is either in the Crags or the Valley of Khedrun. We've sent out mining exploratory parties to both those locations and both have reported back signs of Zyark and some of his dwarves. In either case, he'll need to have something established by now. Winter is fast approaching.   Khedrun: Its eastern edge was about a hundred miles east of Mirabar. According to legend, Khedrun, a dwarf prospector, discovered the "greatest cache of gems the world has ever seen" and then built a home for himself and his fellows using only his axe. For many years it was thought by some to be the location of Gauntlgrym. Some believe that a mine greater than Gauntlgrym may still be there. Others say that Mirabar has already tapped into it.   Crags: A Harsh territory 150 miles long from Gauntlgrym to Mirabar that is no longer inhabited by Dwarf, or Elf civilized man. There are some Barbarians of course. In the past many mines were located in this area. But it's common knowledge that the mines are dead and worked out and have been for hundreds of years. They are now home to various creatures: Goblins, Hobgoblins, Bugbears, Orcs and Many Gnolls.

The Bloodstone does what?

Rolen asked Roundshield if he wanted the bloodstone. Roundshield replied that he had no interest in the “Ring of Winter.” Legend has it that he Frost Giants were obsessed with obtain the Ring of Winter from Artus Cimber so they somehow obtained a sample of his blood and had the bloodstone created to track him down. Both Lucky and Rolen stood there with their jaw wide open.   Captain Tyrus wanted to know if there were any dwarves that he could trust. Roundshield replied that while the Dwarves of Guantlgrym will never again aid the Dwarves of Mirabar, it does not mean that others couldn’t trust them. Rolen asked why the Gnolls took Farimour’s bow, and Roundshield replied, “It’s a very powerful magical bow, and some Gnolls are exceptional archers.”

To Mirabar

The party discussed how to get to Mirabar. They realized that the horses are all in Luskin and Anna’s carriage is still in Waterdeep. Jaquette mentioned she has this cool spell called Wind Walk and with it they could call turn into wisps of wind and fly to Mirabar really fast. They realized that with this spell they could travel there in 8 hours (exactly the time the spell can last.) Wind Walk lets them travel at a pace of 34 miles/ hour and with an 8-hour time, they can travel up to 272 miles. Mirabar was about 270 miles away. They all held hands and Jaquette cast Wind Walk.   Lucky enjoyed flying as high as he could and reverting to his normal form and then free falling and turning back into the gaseous form. As they flew over the crags, Tyrus saw a few dead animals with their chests ripped open. The party saw bugbears, goblins, hobgoblins and Orcs patrolling on various hills. They descended and landed just outside of the gates of Mirabar. Two figures were approaching from the south.
