Stop the Eagle

The eagle darted towards a clearing in the West. Tyrus ran after it and an enchanted Tree lashed out at him with its branches. Two more trees began to move toward the party. Lucky cast a fireball at two of them and destroyed one. The third tree picked up a rock and threw it at lucky. Lucky took the hit well and didn’t fall from the sky. Jaquette, as an Eagle (and still ticked off at the DM) flew up to look at the area to see if there are any other threats. Lucky cast a firebolt from his rear end hitting the enchanted tree.
Tyrus took out his greatsword and slashed deeply into the enchanted tree while Anna pulled out the sunsword and slashed into it. The trees pounded both Anna and Tyrus. Jaquette swooped down and pooped (as a bird) on the tree attacking Tyrus. She then approached the eagle and said: “What do you want? Lay off my people!”
Tyrus hacked deeply into the tree attacking him, the tree smashed him and then grappled him with one of its roots. Lucky silently cast another firebolt out of his butt and destroyed the tree and said: “Silent but deadly!” Tyrus thanked Lucky. Anna continued against the one remaining tree while keeping one eye on the eagle who seemed to just be observing. The Eagle said to Jaquette: “I’m not attacking, the trees are, but just one more moment please. You should go help your friends.” Jaquette flew down and slashed into the remaining tree with her talons. Tyrus walked up and took a couple swings with his great sword. Lucky cast one more firebolt taking out the last remaining tree.

Gildon (a gold Dragon?)

The Eagle swooped down from the top of the tree with Jaquette’s bag. He dropped the bag and then transformed into an older human male with a dark robe. He introduced himself as Gildon. He complemented the party on their accomplishments. He handed a scroll of “Raise dead” to Lucky as recompense for the trials they endured. He explained that he is a collector of items and has become bored with much of what he has and is looking for a strong adventuring party that he could work with and perhaps trade with. He mentioned that he has this Sentential shield, Gloves of thievery that he could trade for 1,000 gp worth of gems.
He was wearing a robe of stars that he said he wouldn’t part with it for less than 50,000 gp worth of gems. He mentioned that, if the need arises, he’d like to hire the party. He gave lucky a sending stone and said, if there is anything in particular that the party needs and it is for a noble cause, that perhaps they could make another arrangement.
Tyrus mentioned that he’s interested in a “natures mantel” or a “Hunter’s Cloak.” Anna asked for a “Stone of Mastery.” Gildon said, remember that he’s most interested in Ruby’s and if he should come across such items, he may contact them. Jaquette asked Gildon if he had ever seen creatures such as Seven. Gildon mentioned that there are some larger ones of these that have a larger glowing blue gem that he’d be willing to make a deal for.
He bid farewell and walked into the trees. Jaquette said “I don’t like him.” Lucky said, “He’s a golden dragon!” They party finished collecting mistletoe and spent the night sleeping in the woods. Lucky cast dream on himself and visited Rolen in his dream.

Back to the mustering point near Gauntlgrym

The next morning Jaquette cast Wind walk on the party and they went back to the caverns near Gauntlgrym. They traveled into their quarters and found Rolen. They caught up on the events that had transpired. They discussed and debated the options of going to Mechanus or attempting a head-on attack against the Slaadi. Jaquette suggested they take Seven back to Mechanus and get information. Rolen wanted a head-on assault. Anna preferred not to leave this plane. Tyrus wanted to go to Mechanus. Lucky was undecided.
The party went to speak with General Gronor and he explained how Slaad reproduce by converting those they scratch into Slaad or having their young gestate inside of creatures. He mentioned there are strong Red and Blue salad that you don’t want to get scratched by. The Green Slaad have magical ability. The Gray Slaad are even more powerful and attack with a Greatsword. He admitted that the Gnolls are not one for one adequate to go against the Slaadi so it would be better to have a larger Force and that there are at least 200 Slaads as far as he knows. Jaquette asked how big the cave is, and General Gronor explained that his search parties have never returned to provide details.
The party realized the futility of a frontal assault and decided to go to Mechanus. They all held hands (including Seven) and Lucky pulled out the plane shift spell scroll. He read the scroll and they were all transported to Mechanus.

Entry into Mechanus

They arrived on a massive cog outside a large city wall. A human on of the city wall greeted the party with “A pleasant Salutation to you all… only one with a lawful sponsor may enter the city.” Three men approached the party and offered to be a sponsor:
  • The Noble, Elliot Barnes, offered to be a guide and legal counsel for a mere 10,000 gp each.
  • A plan man introduced himself as Saxwell Martz and offered to vouch for the party for a mere 5,000 gp each.
  • A wavy haired Drow with a Brooklyn accent (Slim Triskin) told them that he’d get them in the gates for 10gp each and a favor. “If you should happen across a certain blue glowing stone, you’d get me one.”
The party debated for some time. Tyrus and Rolen went with Slim. Anna and Jaquette went with Nobel Barnes for full legal counsel although Jquette was not happy with it. Lucky persuaded Saxwell to represent him. Saxwell recommended that Seven stay behind because “Rogue Monodrones are destroyed on sight.”
The party explained that they wanted to talk to Primus regarding a Slaadi problem on the material plane. Slim told them that they should head to the Fraternity of Orders and that he could point them in the right direction. Rolen agreed to pay his fee and asked if there are any particular laws they should be worried about. Slim said “Observer how people greet each other and do the same.” The Nobel Barnes explained to a nervous Jaquette that most people don’t die from breaking the law as long as you have good legal counsel and are not committing any of the capital crimes like murder, theft or lying. Rolen told Lucky to say nothing. Anna was the first to sign the contract and the Noble Barnes snapped his fingers and an inevitable, a Marut flew down and processed the contract. Rolen and Slim modified the wording of the contract to read “If you come across a Sentinel stone that you can legally obtain you will bring one to Slim.”

A tedious walk to the Fraternity of Orders

The Nobel Barnes explained to Anna and Jaquette how to properly greet different people based upon their rank. Saxwell explained to Lucky to “Do as I do” and demonstrated a proper greeting. Lucky successfully feigned being mute. Rolen and Tyrus caught up Lucky. They learned several greetings and learned that the unlicensed use of Magic is illegal. They learned that walking too fast is illegal, they learned that improperly greeting someone of higher rank is illegal and several other laws that made Lucky and Rolen extremely nervous. The party focused on learning different greetings and practiced identifying different ranks based on robes etc. The Nobel Barnes gave Anna and Jaquette a small disk that could be used to summon him if they need legal help. Saxwell gave Lucky a coin that could be given to any Inevitable to summon him. Rolen, Jaquette and Lucky went to go hide somewhere outside.
Lucky, Jaquette and Rolen remembered how to greet the first person them met but Rolen completely forgot when the they met the 2nd person and tried to fake that he was mute. The person looked very upset and saw through the ruse. Lucky intervened and convinced the person that Rolen had been dropped on his head at a very young age. The person let the attempt at deception pass and went along his way. They saw a 3rd person walking toward them and they all improperly greeted him. Lucky started speaking Gaelic and Jaquette threw up. Realizing they couldn’t fake their way out of it, Jaquette pressed her summoning stone for her overpriced legal counsel.
A Marut (one of the Inevitables) arrived on the scene and stated that Lucky, Jaquette and Rolen are accused of violating a particular law for not addressing a person correctly. Rolen plead guilty and the Marut escorted them to Court and told them to report to Courtroom 5 for trial.

The Fraternity of Orders

Meanwhile, Anna and Tyrus asked the first person they met how they could get information on defeating Slaadi in the material plane. They remembered the proper greeting and were directed to Brother Rolf. They found Brother Rolf and greeted him properly also. They explained the situation with the Slaad and Brother Rolf explained how the Slaads were created in the plane of Limbo (a plane of utter chaos.) “Long ago, Primus, overlord of the modrons, created a gigantic, geometrically complex stone imbued with the power of law. He then cast it adrift in Limbo, believing that the stone would bring order to the chaos of that plane and halt the spread of chaos to other planes. As the stone’s power grew, it became possible for creatures with ordered minds, such as modrons and githzerai, to create enclaves in Limbo. However, Primus’s creation had an unforeseen side effect: the chaotic energy absorbed by the stone spawned the horrors that came to be known as Slaadi. Sages refer to Primus’s massive creation as the Spawning Stone for this reason. The Slaadi wiped out every last modron enclave in Limbo. As creatures of utter chaos, Slaadi loathe modrons and attack them on sight. Nonetheless, Primus stands by his creation and either doesn’t perceive the Slaadi as threats or chooses to ignore them.”
He went on to tell them that “Every Slaad has within its head, a magical gem in the Slaad’s brain roughly the size and shape of a human child’s fist. The gem is the same color as the slaad. Another creature can use magic to draw forth a slaad’s gem and use it to subjugate the slaad. The slaad must obey whoever possesses its gem. If a slaad’s gem is destroyed, the slaad can no longer be controlled in this way.” He explained that the githzerai are a people in the plane of Limbo that have a long history of fighting and defeating the Slaad. He told them that Brother Thomas would be able to provide more information on Gith. Anna asked if they could destroy the Spawning stone. Brother Rolf didn’t know.

Brother Thomas

Anna and Tyrus approached Brother Thomas and again provided the legal greeting. Tyrus asked how one could control the Slaadi. Brother Thomas suggested they talk with the githzerai and explained that before they went to the Plane of Limbo, they need to understand a bit about it. He explained that the matter there is constantly changing but can be controlled simply by willing it with your mind. Once there, you can travel through the plane by simply thinking about it. He offered a book that he had written that has several mental techniques that would give them an advantage when traveling through Limbo. Anna purchased the book.
He offered his tuning fork to that plane and a plane shift spell scroll for 25,000gp or a Inevitable control stone. Ann asked how to do that? Brother Thomas explained that you simply break a small law, get sent to the mines and pocket a stone (just don’t get caught stealing a stone.) They sealed the deal with a contract and had it Notarized by a Marut.

Court room 5.

In Court Room 5 Jaquette met with the Nobel Barnes (her legal counsel) and Lucky met with Saxwell Martz. Anna and Tyrus arrived and were told that their friends are in Court room 5. Tyrus told Rolen that going to the mines would be a way to get an Inevitable Gem in order to get a spell scroll to get to Limbo.
The legal counsel informed Lucky and Jaquette that speaking foreign languages and public vomiting will compound the issues as would any attempt at deception. Rolen told Lucky and Jaquette that they want to go the mines. The lawyer explained the strip search process and Rolen had second thoughts. The lawyers went to speak with the prosecution to see what could be arranged.
