Session 57: The Grave Robbery Caper Report

Tyrus expands his business suppliers

In the morning Jaquette and Tyrus Windwalked to Neverwinter. They tracked the party to the Annoying Bowl Pub but the party had already left. Tyrus and Jaquette asked Chayton about the others and Chayton said that they’d be back. She pointed them to Bernard Street where some shops are. Jaquette spotted Anna and caught up to her. Anna told them to keep an eye on Rolen as he’s not what he appears. Anna told them she was looking for her sister and will meet the party back at the Annoying Bowl Pub for lunch.
On the way back, Tyrus spotted “Bobs Buds” on Bernard street and had to go in. He walked in and found a Shou Human Female Sonya Lau. Tyrus was interested in making a business connection to expand his Business. Sonya asked if Tyrus was familiar with Tobacco from the Far East (Shou Lung) and offered him a cigar from her family’s home. Tyrus convinced Sonya he could b trusted and said she was looking at further distribution of her products. Tyrus said was looking for suppliers for T-Rechs Cigars. Sonya asked if he was interested in distributed other things like Opium. She was looking for distribution in Waterdeep and she prefers to sell to a higher class of people than the competition Waterdeep. They agreed in a partnership and Sonya told Tyrus that her brother will make a delivery. Tyrus gave her his address and told her that Barktholomu would receive delivery.
Sonya Gave Tyrus a few samples of cigars plus one very small cigar dipped in opium. At the end of the deal Sony pulled Tyrus in closely with a very strong grip and said, “Do NOT disappoint.”
Jaquette and Tyrus noticed the smell of a house burring in the distance and followed the commotion to the south side of town where there was a house on fire. Tyrus spotted Lucky being consoled and stared at Lucky with a disappointed father look. Lucky told the neighbor (Phillip), who was providing the consolation, that these are his friends and he was going to be okay. Phillip told him Johanus would be back tomorrow and Lucky said please give him his regards, but he had to go. Phillip asked his name and Lucky said “Roland – with a D.”
On the way back to the pub, Lucky went looking for Fibble’s Fantastic Familiars, but the shop was no longer where he thought it was. He explained the Occulider to Jaquette and Tyrus and told Jaquette to keep chipper away from the Occulider. Lucky also caught Jaquette and Tyrus up with what everyone had been doing. Lucky, Jaquette and Tyrus met Rolen at the pub for lunch. Chayton told the party that if they came back for dinner, they would be given a free meal on the house.

A cat with a collar that said “Follow me I’m lucky” came in and started circling their legs. They finished their meal and followed the cat. It led them to a mundane building that had a sign that said “money opens all doors, today’s fee is 10gp” Rolen tricked the system with a coin that had a string tied to it and the door opened.
The place was immaculate on the inside, with a fancy fighting pit. In the pit was Anna and one of her sisters. A third person greeted them and said, “You must be Morgan’s friends.” Rolen couldn’t tell the difference between the 3 Annas.
The 3 Annas were Morganna (Morgan), Annaleena (Leena), Annalisa (Lisa). The party explained their current situation. Leena asked the party what Morganna does for them. AnnaLisa explained that she wanted to trade places with Morganna. Morganna said that she needs to spend some time focusing on her fighting skills. AnnaLisa explained that she is a trainer of fighters and her interest was to simply to substitute for her younger sister. Tyrus said “I don’t know if I quite trust your capabilities yet. Would you mind perhaps showing your skills to me?” And they hopped into the sparing pit.
Anna Struck first with her battleaxe. Tyrus said “You hit like a kobold” and struck back with his greatsword. Anna was about to make a critical hit when Lucky used his abilities to lessen the blow. Anna still hit hard and Tyrus was impressed. The battle went back and forth and seeing them both getting bloodied Rolen said “Okay you’ve proven your point, you can stop now.” But Anna made a stunning strike and hit Tyrus hard. Rolen had enough and shot AnnaLisa in the Leg, knocking her down. AnnaLeena pointed out that Tyrus had challenged her and ganging up on her is a little unfair. AnnaLeena healed them both and Rolen apologized.
Tyrus walked up to AnnaLisa, extended his hand, and said, “I like the way that you fight, I would be proud to have you as a member of our party for some time.” Rolen asked when Morganna would be re-joining, AnnLeena said “When she’s ready.”
Morganna gave to the party the portable hole with all the treasure and the 2 rifles. Jaquette gave Anna a long hug and said goodbye for now. The party formally introduced themselves and welcomed AnnaLisa into the group as “Anna.”

There is no such thing as a free meal

The party went back to the Annoying bowl pub for Chayton’s free dinner. Chayton provide the party a very fresh venison Stew. A Slightly overweight middle-aged human male with a dark leather coat and a cap came in (to his own jazz theme music) and Chayton pointed out the party to him. He introduced himself as detective Chase, Saul Chase. Along with him was a hunched over stringy haired frail cemetery caretaker named Ichabod. Detective Chase had heard much of the party from Chayton and he offered them a job to help him with a case he’s working on. He told them he’d work it himself but he’s currently working on a couple of house burning cases.
Detective Chase explained that there had been a series of grave robberies. Ichabod explained that these human sized creatures with huge bat like wings flew in, ate some grave dirt, stole some grave dirt and a body and flew away. Detective Chase offered the party 500gp if Ichabod’s story is real and they bring back proof that they’ve solved the issue and Ichabod, or the grave digger Mort validate it. The party agreed to help, and then finished their dinner. Detective Chase paid for their meal.

Ichabod led the party on the long walk to the cemetery. The cemetery was about 12 miles northeast of Neverwinter. They arrived around 10PM with a waning gibbous moon just rising. There was a foggy mist on the ground and Ichabod led the party to the graves that had been robbed. Ichabod went and hid while the party examined the crime scene. Lucky looked for any signs of Magic, Jaquette talked to a couple shrubs next to a crypt but neither found anything. Anna put an alarm spell around the graves that had already been robbed just in case. Jaquette hopped into one of the graves and examined the dirt looking for clues. In the one grave where only a foot or 2 of dirt was missing, Jaquette dug deep to see if there was a body. She eventually found some human bones.
Tyrus and Lucky perched on top of one of the crypts and Tyrus stared at the sky waiting for something to show up. Rolen leaned up against a headstone and waited but he got very tired and pulled out his sleeping bag and went to sleep for 2 hours.
Around midnight Tyrus heard the beating of large wings just beyond where he could see. He heard something land and it sounded like it pulled out a shovel and started digging. Luck climbed down and quietly told the party. Tyrus pulled out his rifle and laid prone observing where the party went.
Lucky lead the way and told the party he wanted to talk to these things first. Lucky cast tongues and said, “What are you here for.” In his mind he heard, “Leave us be.” Lucky observed 5 purple creatures with large wings on their back and tentacles hanging from their mouths, on their knees eating the grave dirt. Lucky didn’t get any more answers and yelled at the party “Now.”
Anna cast Jim’s glowing coin, distracting three of the five winged mind flayers and lighting up the rest of the area. Lucky cast fireball at the group of creatures and then ran backwards. Anna cast Mind whip and slowed one creature. Rolen captured two of them in a force cage. In response, one of the creatures cast finger of death against Rolen, nearly taking him out.
One of the mind flayers ignored the battle and shoveled some dirt into his bag. Tyrus fired his laser rifle at the one who almost took out Rolen. Rolen looked to Jaquette for some healing and Jaquette (although sympathetic to Rolen) was a little panicked and called lighting upon the closest mind. The 2 trapped mind flayers disappeared from the force cage, then one that was badly hurt disappeared.
Anna smashed one of the badly hurt remaining mind flayers with her Warhammer, crushing its skull. It landed on the ground dead but immediately another mind flayer appeared (naked) right next to it (like it was reincarnated instantly.) Anna punched the naked mind flayer stunning it. Rolen shot his crossbow at the mind flayer shoveling dirt badly bloodying it and knocking it prone. That mind flayer stood up grabbed the bag ½ filled with dirt and telepathically told Rolen “Lord Vitiate will hear of this.” He then disappeared.
The party all ganged up on the naked mind flayer. He was killed once again by Jaquette with her lightning, but another new body appeared. Lucky became frustrated trying to cast spells on this thing because it kept avoiding them. Rolen, disgusted with the whole situation, planted a crossbow bolt to the back of the mind flayer’s skull, killing it. Lucky cut off the head and hands and had Jaquette remove its heart. Lucky put the heart in his chest of preserving.
Rolen suggested, “Let’s forget this all happened, go collect our paycheck and get back to Gauntlgrym.” Lucky examined the dark black blood of the mind flayer and recognized that this creature must have accepted dark gifts from the Amber Temple.
It was late and the party was tired, but nobody wanted to sleep in the midst of the graves. They found Ichabod at his little shack. He invited them to stay in his home, a small 1 room shack with enough floor space for everyone. Most stayed in the shed and Rolen left the headless mind flayer outside the door.
