Sitting on the dock of the bay, watching the crabs dance away

After the party opened the door, they found Lucky and Al sitting on the doc with a bunch of crabs doing a dance. The party filled in Lucky on what had transpired over the last couple days. Lucky explained that he had followed the stream on the first level to a waterfall that led him here. He also told them that he encountered an Aboloeth that wasn’t quite right.

In addition to Lucky, they saw ropes that lashed a pair of rowboats to a dock post and a rusty iron cage wallowing in the slime held afloat by chain and winch. Phosphorescent crabs gathered at the bottom of the lake below the cage. Anna began casting identify on her newfound Arm while the party exchanged stories. Lucky explained that the entire area is filled with water and there are 3 large pentagon rooms sitting on top of gears.

I’ve been slimed before

Luigi went back into the stairway and walked south down the hall. In the hall was the puddle of slime that had given Rolen a headache. Luigi ran across the walls to avoid the slime and followed the hall to the East where he found a secret door. Jeter and Rolen discussed all the possible options as to how to avoid the slime in the least risky way. In the end Jaquette encouraged them to stop discussing and suggested that Jeter go with his telekinesis option. Jeter telekinetically moved everyone over the slime and down the hall.

Luigi opened the secret door at the end of the hall and found a perpendicular hall leading north to south. This new hall was choked with dust and cobwebs. To the south, flickering lights dimly illuminated a larger hall running perpendicular to this one. Where the two halls met, words had been scrawled on the ceiling in dried blood: “AWAKEN NAPAKA!” After Jeter discussed the options and failing to make any decision, the party went south and looked into the next hall

A secret passage

Large puddles of gray slime spread across the floor of the ten-foot-wide, gently sloping hallway. Candles flickered on riveted sconces, casting dim light across a sequence of sculpted reliefs depicting humanoids with bestial heads kneeling before a black star. At the lower end of the hall, a thick purple drape hung wall to wall. At the upper end, the hallway terminated. Anna went to the upper end and examined the wall. She found a bas-relief carving depicting a crocodile-headed humanoid holding up a trapezoidal chest. Tyrena pointed out that the chest had a keyhole. Anna pulled out the jade crocodile key and opened the chest revealing a secret crawlway.

Broken statue

Lucky went the other way and pulled open the curtain revealing a six-foot-tall statue of a leering four-armed gargoyle standing against the back wall. One of its arms was broken off and laid on the floor in front of it with its hand curled into a tight fist. Lucky tried to pry open the hand but could not. The other three arms had their clawed hands open in such a way as to suggest they’re meant to hold something. Carved into the wall above the statue was a riddle:      Three I need      Then three more      Three more still      Opens the door

Napaka

Anna crawled into the secret tunnel followed by Luigi. The passageway looped around, and they came to a room lit by a single candle on a shelf on the Western Wall. The stone room was 10 feet wide and 15 foot long with a 10-foot-high ceiling. Two thirds of the room was filled with a massive Green Stone construct that had massive stone rollers on the bottom. Searching The shelf on the western wall, Anna found a fist sized ruby with a sharp pointed end. She then told everyone to get out of the hallway. Indecisive, Jeter stayed in the hallway. Al, Lucky and Luigi followed Anna into the crawlway. Rolen, Tyrena and Jaquette got out of the way. Anna grabbed the ruby and recognized it as the Fabled Eye of Zaltec. But no traps triggered.

Anna tried to push the large stone construct, but it didn’t move. Lucky and Al helped and using all his strength, Lucky got the thing to move. The large steam roller began to hum and started to move forward and suddenly propelled backwards smashing Lucky and Al who partially go out of the way. The construct “Napaka” then smashed through the Eastern wall and barreled down the hall towards Jeter. Anna telekinetically moved Jeter into the side hall. Jeter confused by all the options floated back into the path of Napaka and then tried to use his telekinetic powers to stop the massive stone object. Unfortunately, the 10ft cubed object weight about 175,000 lbs and Jeter couldn’t not stop it, so he moved back into the side hall.

With no more targets in the eastern side of the hall, the massive steam roller sped back to Anna, Lucky and Al. All of which did their best to avoid the full force, but Al did not survive the blunt force trauma. Napaka rolled back down the hall a little ways and Al, now a puddle of clover that slowly faded into nothingness. Anna called out to Jeter to use the scepter he had found. Jeter ran back into the hall, pointed the scepter at the construct and said “Stop.” Napaka however rolled directly toward Jeter and plowed into him cutting his hit points in ½. Anna dashed forward. Jaquette grabbed Rolen’s ear and told him to stop instigating Jeter’s indecision as he’s going to die. Lucky tried to gather the clover left over from Al but as he did, it dissolved into dust and faded away. Tyrena looked for a switch or lever in the hall and found none. Jeter took the scepter and with it he struck the massive Napaka which instantly turned into a pile of dust.

The statue.

Jaquette healed Jeter a bit with one of her prayer beads. Anna walked down to the end of the hall where the gargoyle was. Anna told the party that she had found the Eye of Zaltec. Rollen wanted to use it to free the spirit in the lantern but Anna didn’t want to release another unknown entity. Ann put three 100gp gems into the 3 open hands of the gargoyle. The gargoyle’s hand closed and crushed the gems into powder. Anna took three more 100 gp gems and they too were crushed. Ann then took three 500gp gems and the hands of the gargoyle closed with a crunch but did not open. The 4th hand on the floor opened revealing the Eye of Zaltek. Ann looked in her pouch and saw that the Eye was teleported into the hand.

The cog of rot.

Tyrena lead the party north up the hall to a pentagon shaped room. A pungent stench filled the room, the walls of which were covered with riveted sheets of iron. A wild garden full of sickly plants and rotting compost took up most of the interior, and a narrow path hugged the walls between the two exits. Jutting from the middle of the garden was a six-foot-tall rusty sprinkler. In the ceiling above the sprinkler, a ten-foot-wide shaft led straight up. Luigi dug up one of the plants and found there was not much more than an inch of dirt above the stone floor. They examined the common jungle plants and found that they must be growing by some sort of magical source and the plants themselves were rotting. They followed the exit West.

The cog of Acid

An acidic stench filled the next pentagonal chamber, which had another exit further to the West. The walls were covered with riveted sheets of iron, and the pockmarked stone floor had a large puddle of gray slime in the middle of it. Friezes along each wall just beneath the ceiling depicted five black dragons. A Skeleton with an octagonal head saw the party and began running to the western exit. Lucky struck it with a fire bolt, and it turned to attack the party. The Skelton ran back to Lucky and started slashing him with his great sword.

Jaquette conjured 2 lions to attack the skeleton and one of the lions pounced on it. Rolen shot the skeleton with his crossbow and Luigi ran up to it and struck it with his staff. Anna punched it in the neck, killing it. The head popped off and Anna caught it. Anna and Lucky investigated the black dragon frescos and saw small holes in them. They decided to move on. Anna tried to burn the slime, but it seemed unaffected

Control Room

The party (except Rolen) moved into the next room avoiding the slime on the floor. In the middle of this iron-plate room, they found a four-foot-high, seven-foot-wide iron lectern that was topped by a slanted control panel. Set into the control panel were a gold lever with a star-shaped handle, two dials in red and blue, and two buttons of the same colors. Wall engravings behind the control panel showed five groups of circles, with a small crystal embedded in the wall under each one. The crystal under the configuration labeled “3” was glowing bright green. Three six-inch-diameter rusty iron pipes jutted from the wall above the engravings. Jeter said he could probably figure this out in about an hour if he could study it. Lucky walked up to the panel and pressed the red button. The Iron door shut. Lucky went to press another button but Jaquette stopped him. The party allowed Jeter to try to figure out the control panel. The rest of the group took a short rest. Anna was able to attune to her arm.

After an hour, the door opened on its own. Jeter finished his analysis and told the party, “These controls are far too complicated, we should leave them alone.” Frustrated, Lucky started pressing the blue button and moving the blue dial and started to figure out how they work. Anna put the immoveable rod in the doorway to keep it open just in case.

G’lyh’rul

When Lucky turned the red dial, everyone heard an exasperated voice in their head say, “What now Gorra?” Lucky asked who was asking. The voice responded, “You’re not Gorra, who are you?” The voice introduced itself as G’lyh’rul and said it recognized Lucky but wanted to know more details about the others. He seemed to know more about each person than they revealed. The party were very reluctant in sharing any information so G’lyh’rul grew bored and left them. The party summoned him again with the red switch and G’lyh’rul asked Jeter about Asmodeus, Jeter explained his brief story and G’lyh’rul said that the time of the gods nears an end and the time of the Aboleths will be again thanks to Acererak. He then grew weary of the conversation and left.

Summoned again and sounding a bit more impatient, he asked for one story and he would answer one question. Anna explained that she wanted to avenge her siter as her sister died, and she could not protect her. G’lyh’rul said, “An evil creature who strives for godhood and cares not for mortals. The control panel will move the cogs. Jeter looked again and said, “oh the doors are in different positions!” Anna turned the blue switch to select a different layout of rooms and pulled the lever. The door tried to shut but was prevented by the immoveable rod. Slime started pouring out of the tubes. Anna tried to push the lever back, but it was jammed. She then pressed the blue button and the rooms on the cogs turned. Jeter cast wall of stone covering the tubes. Anna used her tinker tools and unjammed the lever.

Rotating rooms

The party walked to the Cog of Rot and Jeter stayed behind in the control room. He waited and then selected orientation #1 and pressed the blue button to rotate the 3 pentagon rooms. The party in the rotten vegetation room watched as the hallways lined up with 2 new rooms. The room to the north lined up with a small trapezoid room where thick green gas billowed out of skull-shaped nozzles. There was a rotting corpse clad in studded leather armor laying on the floor with his mouth open and hands grasping at its throat. Wrapped around one of its arms was a yellow band.

Shambling mounds

The poison gas flowed into the room with the vegetation and the shrubs formed 3 shambling mounds that rose and attacked the party. Anna cast green flame blade on her fist and started pummeling the shambling mounds, the fire didn’t seem to do as much damage as she thought it would. Lucky cast a destructive wave and hurt all of three shambling mounds. Rolen shot his arrows into one and then Luigi laid into it with his fists and then Tyrena finished it off with her laser rifle. The second shambling mound engulfed and killed one of the lions. Jaquette cast blight on it. Using his sharpshooter feat, Rollen decimated the 2nd shambling mound. Lucky shot his firebolt at the last remaining Shambling mound, but it didn’t do as much damage as he thought it would. Luigi hit it with his staff and there wasn’t much left of it. Tyrena finished it off with a laser bolt to its head.

The gas continued to pour into the room and the party began choking and several took poison damage. Anna looked at the corpse and quickly ripped some cloth from the corpse and handed it to Rolen who tried to stuff it into the skulls. Lucky tried to help and got one to the skulls clogged. Luigi took his bedroll and completely covered the skulls and then soaked them with his canteen successfully blocking the gas from coming out. Anna and Rolen looted the body (See treasure found.)

Jeter Disappears

Jeter, concerned for his friends, used the amulet to teleport to them. Anna telepathically told him to bring her removeable rod. Jeter, indecisive, left without it, and found they were okay. Anna told him to go back and get her removeable rod and Jeter attempted to use the amulet one more time. However, this time, Jeter disappeared, and the amulet fell to the floor where he was. Luigi picked up the Amulet. Lucky tried to reach out to Jeter telepathically but there was no response. A speech from Jeter echoed in everyone’s mind and the party gained 11 Temporary HP.
