Ireena Kolyana Character in Toril | World Anvil

Ireena Kolyana

Description

Ireena is a striking young woman with auburn hair, wearing an antique breastplate and brandishing a longsword. She also has some magical capabilities to her, the source of which are unknown.

Development

Ireena has been bitten twice by Strahd Von Zarovich. The villagers are afraid of her and avoid her. Although she appears mild, she has a strong will, and she aids the party as best she can in saving herself. She doesn’t remember her early past. She doesn’t know how she came to Barovia or where she came from. Moreover, her encounters with Strahd are fuzzy memories, thanks to his vampiric charm, but she can recall clearly the blazing hunger in his eyes.
She tells the party that wolves and other terrible creatures attacked the house night after night for weeks. The burgomaster’s heart couldn’t stand the constant assault, and he died three days ago. Strangely, since his death, the house has not come under attack. She says that no one from the village has been brave enough to help Ismark ''The Lesser'' Kolyanovich take Kolyan Indirovich to the cemetery for proper burial. Ireena asks the characters if they would be so kind as to help Ismark ''The Lesser'' Kolyanovich deliver her father’s body safely to Father Donavich, the local priest.

Disappearance and return

After the burial, she accompanies the characters to Vallaki where she ran off with Izek Strazni. They arrived at Argynvostholt only for them to be told to visit Krezk to find the answer they needed to defeat Strahd. They stayed there for a while under the protection of Costel Barbu. One night, both Izek Strazni and Costel went to investigate something and never returned.

Abduction

After Ilya and his mother were defeated in Krezk, she was abducted by Arti Fischer as he made a deal with Strahd so he could have Ezmeralda D'Avenir back.
