Izanagi's Hourglass

The Crossroads of Time

Izanagi's Hourglass is the Divine Item of the King of the Gods, Izanagi. It holds the Item Magic known as Time Magic, said by many to be one of the five great magics alongside Death, Soul, Mind, and Copy magic.

Hourglass of the Gods

Izanagi's Hourglass is made of a simple wood, many have claimed it to even be birch wood. Why a God would craft the most powerful item in existence out of something like birch wood is unclear. Yet he did.

The glass cannot be cracked. Many have tried, thinking it would limit the power it holds. Whatever the blue glass is made of, however, is unbreakable, and holds inside of it the very sands of time itself.   It is said that if one were to stare into it, they would see everything to ever happen in history, and everything that ever would happen, but that the mere idea of it would drive them mad before they ever reached even the next instant.

Power

It is not truly the item that holds the magic. It holds a blessing from Izanagi, certainly, but that is not Time Magic. Like all Divine Items, the Item Magic is unlocked within the body by whosoever holds Izanagi's Hourglass. The only problem is that only one person can wield the magic at a time, and until they die, no one else may draw out the power with the hourglass.

Time Magic allows the user to control time in limited ways, depending on the user. Most are able to stop time for a short period, and with some coaxing or training can send things or people backwards or forwards in time.   For some, these create closed loops, while for others this can create an entire branching timeline.   Some have been said to stop time entirely, while others are said to have only been able to stop the time of people, while the world continued to spin.

History

Izanagi's Hourglass was said to be the first item granted a blessing by the Gods, according to some legends. Others say it was the God of Craftsmen, Hadur, while others still insist that it was Athena's brick that built the first civilizations, or Sia's Crystal Ball that brought fear of the future to mortals before speech could convey their fright.   Either way, Izanagi was one of the first. It was passed down through history, most notably to Grilgrom during the Age of Heroes, who used it to much acclaim, granting him renown as the Hero of Hours.
