Silent Crumbs Cafe

The Silent Crumbs Cafe is a cafe and library near the northern entrance to the city of Zephys in Draconian territory. It is a regular stop for many people who live towards the edge of the city, but it is even more common for commuters, tourists, and those who have just entered the city to stop at.

The Cafe

The housing around the Silent Crumbs Cafe is fairly low income due to being filled mostly with people who have only just moved to the city. This is not always the case, as some say the noble Mardaar family of Oraakil Mardaar, Talthil Mardaar, and Hardel Mardaar once lived around there. However, the small buildings give off a different energy than the towering buildings closer to the center of the city.

Namesake

The Silent Crumbs Cafe also serves as a library. When getting their beverages or snacks, customers then are asked to remain fairly silent to not disturb the others. Therefore, the name is meant to say that even the crumbs of the croissants they make are silent to allow for a more pleasant experience.

Founding Family

Silent Crumbs was started up by the noble family known as Durzire, one of the five original noble families of the Draconian people and the founding family of Yirthum. After being promoted to noble status, the main branch of the family moved to Zephys and has since felt very disconnected from Yirthum.
In 401, Vachial Durzire and his girlfriend Yalxil Mipora decided to give back to the community. Vachial disliked having to go to someone else's bookstore or library to read and then taking that book to a cafe to get coffee and baked goods. Yalxil suggested the idea that Vachial actually did something about it.
Thus they started Silent Crumbs, where Yalxil gathered books with Vachial's Durzire influence and money while Vachial baked. Ultimately, Vachial Duzrire would become known as the "Baron of Baked Goods" for his prowess with an oven. He connected to his Yirthumite roots by learning Elven recipes like croissants and baguettes.
The Durzire Family still runs Silent Crumbs, though they are more hands-off generally. Still, the boss is always the Durzire who stops by on occasion for a coffee and a nice book.

The Structure

Exterior

Silent Crumbs Cafe is a white concrete building with red accents, standing out amidst the brown wooden buildings in its district. Its roof is shaped like the icing atop a cupcake, with red and yellow swirls and a cherry atop it.
The double doors that one enters through are wooden, painted to appear like bread. Glued to the surface of each door is a menu: on the left is the drinks menu and on the right is the menu for the bakery. Therefore, even passing by, one can see what goods can be found inside and thus can be drawn in.

Interior

The floor is an uneven tile floor that is painted over with a glaze that makes it appear and feel like one is walking on frosting. For this, all customers and employees are asked to take off their shoes upon entering (Draconians, Lizardfolk, Anurans, Devils, Kamejin, Korvians, and other Beastmen already have them off, so this is mostly for the more human-looking races like Elves). The floor even tastes like frosting (the flavors changing depending on where in the cafe you are) for any pets that enter and lick the floor, though it is not advised for people to do so.
The menu is hung from the ceiling at the center of the cafe, held up by strings made from tough loaves of bread that were hardened and strung together. The counter is marble and features a glass display of baked goods, made fresh every hour. The coffee is made in the back so as not to disturb the customers eating at the tables, which are painted to look like peppermint.
The bookshelves are not blocked off, so one does not need to order to get a book, but one cannot leave the cafe with the book. There is an area with cushioned seating for those who do not wish to eat but still want to read. The cushions are fashioned to appear like little loaves of bread with smiley faces on them.
One should also keep watch for the Anuran man named g'Doobh, an assassin who works part-time as a barista. He is carefully watching the customers who enter, particularly those who are just coming into Zephys for the first time. If he is not behind the counter, he may be hanging from the menu signs on the ceiling, unseen.

The menu for Silent Crumbs is themed after the Durzire home village of Yirthum and thus shares Elven influence and theming. The drinks are made to order and thus have many variations. Here are some examples, though this hardly extends to the full scope of the menu.
