Hamwesen

['hamˌveːzn̩]
After the appearance of magic, many normal humans changed their appearances and gained different forms. Some of them grew stronger, some gained abilities beyond what a normal man could do and other adapted traits of various animals. The Chauken started to call these Hamwesen, as they were able to leave the hull of their human form, due to the magic.

Wuelfen

['vɔlfn̩]
"Stand tall, Wuelfen! We are Wotan's warriors and we will fight for his glory and for the protection of these lands!"

When the magic came during Wotan's Call, some men, women and children grew stronger, faster and bigger. Their faces, arms, and legs resembled those of a wolf more than a human, even though they were still able to talk. The Wuelfen saw themselves blessed by Fenrir and called upon to fight with Donar and Wotan against the forces of darkness. Their hunger for the fight and their short temper quickly became known far and wide, as well as their loyalty to their god.

Oturen

[oˈtuːʁən]
"You are such a great listener, thank you for your comfort. I do wish you would stop turning into a rabbit while we talk, though"
Not all transformations were just an increase in strength and aggressiveness. Some gained the ability to change into small animals completely and at will. Often these were harmless and smaller animals like rabbits or otters, which was well reflected in the person's personality. An Otur is usually calm, softly outspoken and a careful thinker. Some of them tend to have a mischevious side to them, though.

Disen

['diːzn̩]
"She is so beautiful. So elegant. So cold. Cross her and her gaze might as well freeze you!"

A very mysterious transformation happened to the Disen. They became pale, cold to the touch and indescribably beautiful to look at. At the same time, the already quiet person grew more reclusive, melancholic and distant to the community, sometimes even secretive and conspirational. They were, however, able to feel the presence of spirits and ghosts around them and claimed to be able to communicate with them.

Mannen

['manən]
"They may look different, but they are still our brothers and sisters. They are Chauken! We will stand by them till the end of Ragnarök!"

Not all people visibly changed. Most of them remained apparently human, but gained the ability to channel the power of the gods through runes. They were technically not part of the Hamwesen, but they became the fourth group especially within Troumwart, called the Mannen. As far as was known, almost all people of the Chauken that did not change gained this ability.

Dunkelwesen

Apparently not only people changed. Around Troumwarft many creatures appeared that have never been seen before. These Dunkelwesen are threatening the life of the Chauken and there have been stories of gruesome attacks and malevolent magic men all around.

Fafnien

"Your brother went into the moores! Do not trust when you hear his call, watch each of your steps. Most likely, he is long dead."

Especially in the marshes, these lizard like creatures had appeared and were attacking lonely travelers or small groups. Apparently a Fafnir drowns their victims, steals their skin and eats their flesh. It is said to even try to take the form of their victims to lure their family to their deaths.

Hatiren

"Oh gods, do you hear that howl? Don't hesitate, don't even think - just run, in Donar's name, run!"
After the magic spread across the lands, at least two packs of giant black wolves were roaming across the forests of the Chaukenlande. The Hatiren are said to have pitch black eyes that look upon anything living with a deep hatred. With this hatred they blindly attack anything living and will rip them mercilessly to shreds.

Skallien

"His eyes. They look as if he was completely broken. There is no doubt, a Skallik got hold of him. Poor soul."

Across the river Weser there was an ominous darkness spreading. Occasionally the shadows took form and haunted the lands, only to be expelled by the Disen. A Skallik could take hold of a person and poison their thoughts, having a lasting effect even after they were dispelled.
