Saidar

Saidar is a form of energy that can be harnessed by certain individuals to create spell effects and magic items. The ability to manipulate Saidar is very rare among mortals since ancient times, and it has only ever been documented in females. Thus, some have named it the "female energy" of the universe, in contrast to Saidin , which has only ever been documented as malleable by male individuals, also called the "male energy" of the universe.
Those with the ability to manipulate Saidar can feel it very acutely during the spellcasting process. All individuals describe it as a "peaceful lake", "harmonic melody", or other definitions reminiscent of a passive energy, eagerly awaiting to be accessed. Once the spellcaster attempts to make a connection however, the force becomes aggressive, and the only effective method of harnessing Saidar known to us presently is to give oneself completely over to it. It is a force that needs to be embraced.
Scholars also agree that Saidar is very tempting, since accessing even a small amount can feel very pleasurable. Those that get carried away either die as a result of accessing more of the Saidar energy than their bodies can handle, or lose the ability to access Saidar completely.
Female spellcasters typically train their ability to access Saidar for decades, only marginally increasing the amount of accessed energy as their study progresses..
