Autobots

A disparate and ad-hoc force of laborers, scholars, scientists, and laymen, the Autobots were formed from the Cybertronians who chose to follow the Primes, respecting their Cybertronian traditions, while simultaneously taking back their freedom of choice after the fall of Functionalism, the caste system that had governed Cybertron for eons. With the fall of functionalism the revolution broke into two factions: the Autobots and the Decepticons. The two factions disagreed about how Cybertron would need to be governed after the war, and the disagreement became a battle, which became a war, between two charismatic leaders and those that followed them. At this point, eons later, the focus of the conflict has become about personal freedom and the threat of tyrrany.

Autobot comes from "autonomous robot" and reflects that each Autobot has freedom of choice and responsibility for their actions. In this desperate war, the Autobots defend not only themselves and their world, but also all sentient beings from the tyranny of Decepticon rule through sacrifice and constant battle. Just as each bot must choose where to dedicate themselves and their spark, Freedom is the right of all sentient beings.

With all of that said, these common bots have developed over time into a military force that operates in secret to disrupt and destroy Decepticon efforts to conquer and control the various homeworlds of the galaxy's sentient beings.
