Arcaeli Destiro

The Arcaeli Destiro is a book which contains the language of magic, though it is believed that it contains much, much more, and only showed what the reader needed to know a the time. The current whereabouts of the book have been unknown since merely a few years after its first sighting.

Description

The Arcaeli Destiro is a large book that seems to hold a few hundred pages, and is gilded neatly on the corners. In the center is a strange image that depicts the magical words for the four elements (earth on the bottom, fire on the right, water on the left, air on the top) within a circle. Outside of the circle is a symbol, repeated on all of the sides the elements are on. It is unknown what this symbol means.   At all times, the book emits a glow of bright blue light.

Origin

Tens of thousands of years ago, when the dust settled upon the creation of the world, and the four Deities of Neranda loomed above, a legendary book was stolen by a mere mortal, and brought into the hands of man.   The mortals of the world were enslaved to the gods above, and felt immeasurable resentment in their hearts, but saw no way to gain any amount of revenge against their cruel masters.   One, however, sought more than the others to bring them pain.   This single person snuck into the bedchambers of the gods, and found within an exquisitely made book with a faint azure glow. Instinct told the mortal that it was of value, and so without a second thought, they snatched it and fled back to the society of man.   Within that book, the mortals found their hope.   It taught them secrets of the world, secrets of the very fibers of creation. It taught them how to manipulate and bend it to their will. It taught them power.   Magic was born among the mortals.   And against that power, against that magic, even the cruel gods were destroyed.

Contents

While the only known contents of the book have been the language of magic, it is believed by many that it contains more than that, and that it only showed what the readers needed.   To many, the book is seen as something that contains all of the world's knowledge, and thus it is sought after by all who know of it.   In writings, it was described as having "forced" the knowledge of the subject into the reader, rather than being something that must be pored over and studied for a time, implying it has some sort of magical ability to impose knowledge onto others.

The Magic Language

After the language of magic was taught to mankind, they made record of it in books of their own. Looking back upon the writings of the time, how much the Arcaeli Destiro taught them becomes clear.   Nearly all of the fundamentals of magic used in the 3rd era of Neranda are present, showing that the book taught them just about everything there is to know about the basics of magic.

I love the idea of magic being stolen from the Gods. How did they react when the discovered the mortals wielding their powers?

It's not necessarily that the magic was stolen, the mortals happened to steal a book of infinite knowledge and it gave them the knowledge of magic. (Every time the gods opened the book, it would be blank, because they didn't -need- anything from it).   The gods only found out the mortals had use of magic when there was one left (the other three ended up killing each other to gain full control of the world), and that god was promptly killed by the magic of the mortals.
