Justice at last?
Over a decade ago, a merchant named Gulius was sentenced to life in the black pit for colluding with the elven kingdoms. He was turned in by his business partner, who went on to take control full control of their company. While some questions were raised about whether this was a setup, the evidence produced was apparently irrefutable.
Against all expectations Gulius survived in the pit, becoming one of the most popular gladiators. Seemingly resigned to his fate, but secretly plotting escape and revenge. 2 years ago he made a daring escape from that prison. Bounties were offered for his head in vain, since he had fled to Mikel's Town on Laiqua. There he joined a group of adventurers, including several elves, seemingly contradicting his previous claims of innocence.
Some time later Gulius appeared with the same group in the elven port of Barren Cairn. According to sources in the duke's court, it was there that they discovered that elves he was with were in fact renegades. This new information meant that when a message from Gulius arrived in Filishar, it was at least read rather than simply being burned. He claimed to have evidence that showed his former partner, Gregory, had been working for the elven kingdom all along. His claims intrigued the court in Filishar and he was allowed to return, under heavy guard. His evidence was compelling, with proof of Gregory's involvement in a plot to kill General Shieldbreaker. While some questioned whether this was an elaborate plot by the elves, the Duke was persuaded otherwise and decreed that Gulius should by declared innocent, and control of his company returned to him. Gregory Deepmire was declared a traitor, but guards sent to arrest him were later found dead at his house, with no clues as to his whereabouts.
