Liberation of Nacht.   To the North-east of the settlement of Blackfort in Laiqua lies a region known as the scorched plains. This region resembles a layer of the abyss, with rivers of lava, pools of acid, howling winds and an infestation of fiends. Within this region lies the long abandoned town of Nacht. Records from before the years of darkness tell us that Nacht was once a thriving town, surrounded by fertile fields. It was during the years of darkness that it was turned into a hellscape.   Nacht has long held a fascination for the citizens of Blackfort, both because of it nearness and the fact that some of their ancestors lived there. Multiple expeditions have been mounted over the years, but it wasn't until Gimble Garrick led a band of mercenaries and adventurers out into scorched plains that anyone has returned with news of having reached the town. Gimble's expedition, protected by the Knights of Blackfort and supported by the church of Drack, not only reached the town, they brought back valuable information on the state of the town and the magic that had caused the change in the landscape. It was not a corruption from the demon infestation as many had thought. The land had been deliberately altered by casters to allow the fiends to remain in our world.   This new information opened up a possibility that few had dared to dream about. Nacht could be freed from the demons and the land healed. Simeon Proudfoot, leader of the Knights of Blackfort, began making preparations with the church of Drack. While the church looked for ways to undo the spell, Simeon sought investors for the expedition. Though the Knight's resources are considerable, the manpower and equipment needed for even a small assault on the town would have bankrupted them, but Simeon was able to play on the success of Gimble's expedition to tempt various merchants into investing in return for property in the soon to be liberated town.   When the assault was launched it was with a surprisingly small number of troops. Only 3 squads of the Knights with clerical support. This was because the objective was not to fight the fiends infesting Nacht. The plan Simeon and the church had developed was for a precise strike into the centre of Nacht. If they could breach the castle and destroy the object allowing the demons to remain the town would be freed. A simple plan complicated by the presence of hundreds of fiends a rogue elven spellcaster, Tinuven Shadoweyes, who had survived in Nacht since the start of the years of Darkness thanks to a pact with the fiends.   Led by the Knight's elite force, Holy Storm, the squads fought their way into the castle, despite suffering heavy losses. There they slew Tinuven and destroyed the crystal that allowed the fiends to remain in our world. Reports from the area indicate that all the fiends vanished in an instant, and while the land has yet to recover, it appears that the acid pools are slowly draining away, and the lava flows have stopped. The Knights have established a permanent presence in Nacht and seem determined to develop it into a settlement that can rival their former home of Blackfort. The court here in Filishar has already received messages enquiring about assistance in researching some of the artefacts recovered. It is hoped that the existence of this new settlement will act as a stabilising influence on both Mikel's Town and Southport
