Poisoner Identified
After weeks of investigating, a special squad of guards and priests of Tarin have finally made a breakthrough in tracking down those responsible for the death of more than 60 people. As reported previously, earlier in the winter there were a series of deaths around the city. While these were at first thought to be unrelated to each other, the sheer number and similarity in the cause raised suspicions of foul play. An exhaustive investigation was launched, and it was discovered that the cause was some leaves that were being traded as an intoxicant, but were in fact deadly. A tip lead to a raid on a suspected gang leader, and a supply of the deadly leaves was discovered in his premises. However, the leaves were found to have been planted, and the investigation had to be started over.
Questioning of various regular users of leaves finally led to a break in the case. A new pair of dealers had arrived in Filishar and had been undercutting many of the existing traders. When the men were tracked to a small warehouse near the docks, they were found to be dead. The deaths bore the hallmarks of one of the dockside gangs. A further series of raids led to the arrest of two brothers, Victor and Shaun Loader, members of the Coneys. Under interrogation they revealed that they had killed the traders in revenge for the death of their older sister. It appeared as though the case was closed, with the culprits dead, but there was one outstanding point. Who had planted the evidence and provided the tip that led to the first incorrect arrest.
The investigation was just about to be ended when some new evidence was brought to light. A witness was presented to the lieutenant in charge of the investigation by one of the street gangs. This 'witness' turned out to be the person who had planted the evidence. He had been persuaded by his fellows to turn on the person who had paid him to plant the leaves. As a result of his testimony a warrant has been issued for the arrest of Orlin of Clan Daardenrian, a Dragonborn warrior currently serving in Frostburn company of Explorer Company. The human who planted the leaves was sentenced to 2 years on the road crew.
