Investiture of Authority

A ceremony that marks the transfer of power to a new Regional Governor.

Execution

While not on the scale of the coronation of a monarch the investiture of a new governor is a large scale affair.
The ceremony starts in the morning with a military parade, followed by an inspection by the Emperor. The troops then renew their oaths to the Emperor, with a representative from each unit making the formal oath to the Emperor. Once the oaths have been renewed the Emperor introduces the new governor to the soldiers and presents the governor with the staff of a marshall. The governor will then make a short short speech before the soldiers are dismissed
After a break for lunch is a second presentation, this time in front of the general population. Soldiers are deployed to establish a clear route for the new governor and the Emperor to ride through the streets to the governor's residence. The former governor (if they are still around) will greet their replacement and the Emperor at the entrance and lead them to a place where they can address the crowds outside. The Emperor will then address the crowds, thanking the former governor if appropriate, and introduce the new governor. He will then take the new governor's oath and present him with the heavy gold chain that represents a governor's authority along with the formal document detailing the powers and responsibilities of a governor. The governor is next to make a speech to the crowd, at the end of which he will declare a grand feast, funded by the Emperor.
While the populace is enjoying the feast, there is one last introduction to made. The new governor is quietly introduced to the head of the Knives in the area, and the Emperor formally delegates authority over the knives in the region to the new governor. With that last piece of business taken care of the Emperor and new Governor will join a gathering for senior officials and officers in the region.

While there are a great many participants in most investitures, the key members (and sometimes only participants) are:

• Emperor Kovias Junlinson.
• The new governor.
• The previous governor (if available).
• The region's highest ranked military officer,
• The region's highest ranked member of the Knives.

During a time of conflict, a much reduced form if this investiture is used, where the Emperor simply introduces the key participants to each other. A more formal presentation is then arranged for when matters settle down.
