Knives of Junlin

A group dedicated to protecting the Empire of Dalthion from internal threats like corruption and rebellion.

Structure

The knives are divided into different braces with each brace having responsibility for a different region or organisation in the empire. Depending on a brace's responsibilities they may report to Emperor or to someone he has delegated the responsibility to. There are seperate braces for:
  • Each region (reporting to the Regional Governor).
  • The senior military officers (reporting to the Emperor).
  • The imperial bureaucracy (reporting to Emperor).
The structure within each brace varies depending on their responsibilties, but most operate with 3 section leaders reporting to the head of the brace. Each section leader usually has around 10 sub-leaders who look after groups of agents.   Agents work in secret and their identities are known only to those in their reporting line. The separation is meant to ensure that if a sub-leader or section leader goes rogue then the won't be able to compromise more than their own section. In practice this can lead to the sections working at cross-purposes and getting in each others' way.   While all agent's work to gather information some specialise in interpreting it and finding patterns, while others focus on taking the necessary steps to deal with the findings.

Public Agenda

The Knives are responsible for cutting out corruption before it can spread. That they exist and their objective is well known, as is their philosophy that it better to cut out some healthy flesh rather than allowing any corruption to remain.

The Knives are named for the Emperor's father who the Emperor claims was a talented healer and surgeon. Their philosophy is based on what the Emperor has explained about his father's approach to surgery.
