Stonesmiths
Originally known as the McDougans this dwarf clan was given the name Stonesmith in recognition of their skill in stonework. This skill is widely considered to be divinely inspired, an impression reinforced by the number of clerics the family has produced. These clerics have further enhanced the family’s reputation for stonework through magically shaping stone into majestic designs.
Although the family is best known for the many statues that decorate the Magrannor Halls, it is their work on defensive structures that has made them second only to the Magrannors in terms of wealth and influence. In addition to building and maintaining Varbeck’s Walls, the Stonesmiths were hired to create fortifications for both The Alliance and The Empire. They have even been invited to the capital of the Ancient Kingdom of the Forest to build embassies and other ground level structures.
While each new generation of Stonesmiths continues to build on their reputation as crafters of stone, the clan derives much of their current income from the shrewd purchase of mines and buildings in previous cycles. The clan is well known for financing expeditions to locate and reclaim lost settlements and mines (for a hefty share of the profits or ownership rights).
Being second doesn’t always sit well with members of the family and several branches have left the Magrannor Halls to set up their own settlements. Those that remain are known to occasionally chafe under the restrictions imposed by the Magrannors, and it is rumoured that much of the intrigue surrounding the royal council revolves around the Stonesmiths trying to undermine the Magrannors.
True Art Endures
Disloyal Vassal
The Stonesmiths resent the fact they don't rule Khezdur rather than the Magrannors, and the Magrannors are aware that many of the plots to remove them are set in motion by the Stonesmiths.
Hatred and Envy
The Stonesmiths are nursing a grudge against the Jaad'Karts from when the Jaad'Karts revealed a Stonesmith scheme to avoid tariffs. The Jaad'Kart's are envious of the Stonesmiths and would like nothing more than to bring them down or take some of their wealth and influence
