Sylvan Trickster

Kiir Mariar

A powerrful archfey known for his love of playing dangerous or humiliating pranks on mortals (and sometime other archfey).

Tenets of Faith

The Trickster preaches.the philosophy that the only thing that is important is your own pleasure and amusement. Morality and even social conventions are meaningless concepts unless thry can be used to further your own goals. There is no reward after death, jut eternal boredom in the unchanging lands of the deities so have your fun now while you can. And of course be sure to provide the Trickster with some amusement.

Personal history

The Trickster has a complicated history with the elves. He has been playing pranks and causing trouble for as long as there have been stories and songs to tell about it. Before the Ilma Olie was fully formed this creature was slipping through the cracks between the Feywild and the material plane to reward those who amused him and create problems for those he found boring. Many believe that Caraite Nandaro was created to provide a counter to him and his philosophy.   Unlike Caraite the tricks and traps created by Kiir Mariar are not to educate or amuse others. They are purely for his own amusment and can be humiliating or deadly for the target. One such prank took the life of a daughter of the Silma family and the Trickster was imprisoned for centuries as a result. He was eventually released at the behest of his queen and was forced to limit the scope of his activities.   Less able to play with mortals directly the Trickster started working through them. Using lesser fey as intermediaries Kiir became a patron of rogues and charlatans granting powers to those who would provide him with entertainment. He also started targeting the other archfey more, especially those in the opposing court. At one point he managed to steal the Silver Wolf's tail, nearly provoking a war between the courts. Kiir was about to embark on an even more outrageous escapade when he was captured by Loewe, a prince of the opposing court.   More centuries of imprisonment followed with the Trickster being taunted every day by the Silver Wolf. It is unclear how long he would have been imprisoned for as trouble on the material plane led to his release. A great force was threatening the elven lands and the archfey agreed to help deal with this threat so that they didn't lose some of their favourite playthings. The Trickster was released so that he could bring his legendary cunning to the battlefield. Freed not only from his prison but also from the restrictions that had preventing him cutting lose on the material plane, Kiir made the most of this opportunity and many credit him and his followers with the successful defence of the elven lands.   There was no way either the deities or the other archfey would allow this freedom to continue. and the Trixkster accepted his restrictions being reimposed with reasonably good grace. After all he knew they would call on him again. The Trickster still had a score settle with the Silver Wolf and Loewe, though he was wise enough not to be as direct as he had previously. In between planning how his followers can humiliate those of the Silver Wolf, the Trickster keeps an eye on portals from the material plane in case a mortal steps through. Such trespassers are fair game under the terms of his restrictions so the Trickster takes great enjoyment from tormenting them.

History

These two bitter enemies were unlikely to ever get on as they belong to the opposing courts. Originally they were just opponents on opposite sides but things escalated after the Trickster stole the Silver Wolf's tail.   They now direct their followers, both fey and mortal, to undermine the other's plans.

An unspoken name
Like with other archfey the Trickster knows when someone speaks his name. With some of the archfey this isn't a problem but drawing the Trickster's attention can lead to trouble. While restricted from playing with mortals at will, he is allowed to interact with those who call on him by name. Some will call on him deliberately to form a pact, but any who draw his attention may find themselves caught up in trouble as the Trickster turns them into his latest amusement.
Entertaining Pact
The Trickster will make deals with mortals and unlike many patrons he doesn't demand many services from those pact makers. All he demands is that they keep him entertained. This usually isn't much of a problem as those predisposed to make usch a pact will be of a sort inclined to make the kind of trouble the Trickster will find amusing.
